2009-02-14 - NAC Breda vs Roda JC Kerkrade
A Sports Betting Pick by Billie
Football: Netherlands, Eredivisie
Saturday, 14th February 2009 - kickoff 19:45
NAC Breda (8th - Home Rec : 5-3-3 16:14)
Injuries are the main reason for NAC's terrible results over the last few weeks.
Last week 8 potential starters were out injured, and hopes were at least 3 important players could be welcomed back for tommorow's match. But none of the injured players recovered in time, which means again many important players are out.
NAC is winless in 6, and were totally outplayed by Volendam in their last home match. A point wasn't so bad after all when you look at that match, but Volendam are bottom of the table.
In Breda's last match they travelled to Heerenveen, and while they could hang on for the first half hour (1-1), but then Heerenveen eased away for a 3-1 win.
Now the situation is unchanged and the many youngsters of then are expected to play from the start again. A summary of the injured players:
Penders, defender, captain and heart of the defense
Amoah, main striker and topscorer with 12 goals
Elshot, important right-back
Mtiliga, important left-back
van der Leegte, midfielder and normally starter
de Graaf, midfielder out for the season
Lurling, forward and normally starter
Gillisen, back-up midfielder
Roda JC (16th - Away Rec : 1-3-7 10:20)
Roda isn't exactly in great form either, with just 1 win in last 8 and only 2 points in their last 6 away matches.
Roda lacks a goalgetter upfront and plays to it's abilities, defensive and lurking for their chance. They lost their last match against Sparta, and they are now on 16th place, which is the last play-out place. They are only one point behind on ADO Den Haag.
In Roda's last away match they showed some good play, creating chances and giving AZ Alkmaar a hard time. But in the end the individual class of AZ got them the win.
Now this could be a match just right for them. They'll face an opponent whick lacks creativity and could be shut-out, and on the other hand they'll face an inexperienced and slow defense. When they play with their quick strikers up front, it's possible they sneak away with at least a point.
When you look at the head-to-head between these two teams, you'll notice Roda is a hard nut to crack for NAC. Roda is unbeaten in their last 3 visits to Breda, ond only lost 3 of their last 14 visits.
The Betting Verdict
It's obvious the only goal for NAC is to hang on until most of their starters recover from injury. Until then, it's fighting for every point with the available back-ups and youngsters.
Roda aren't great, but this is a match where they can play their style that suits them best. Therefore I'm taking Roda +0.5 @ 1.68.
I've also taken a small bet on the draw, as a 0-0 wouldn't be bad for either, and it's possible as they both lack firepower. BEST BETTING TIP :
