Leicester City

Leicester City lost at Elland Road midweek as an early penalty settled the game 1-0. The defeat leaves Leicester in 4th place with 33 points as they trail the automatic places by 4 points.

Pearson's side were 4 unbeaten before the loss at Leeds so perhaps we can't make too much of this defeat. Leicester were many bookies favourites to win this league in the Summer and it's tough to imagine them out of the top 3 come May.

At home it's just 1 loss all season to Palace (1-2) from their 9 home games. Since that defeat they drew with Forest (2-2) and beat Ipswich (6-0) so it's pretty safe to say they got over the Palace defeat quickly.

In the last 7 home games, Leicester City have scored 2 or more in 5 of these and are a real power house in front of their own fans. Defensively they are quite good too, keeping 3 clean sheets in 5 home games. A small concern is Forest and Palace scored 2 each in recent visits but they put that right with a clean sheet the next week to Ipswich.

Derby County

Derby County held league leaders Cardiff 1-1 midweek but really should have won the game. The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the game so the hosts missed a good chance to claim a big win.

Clough brings his team to Leicester 2 unbeaten as they try to improve on their 12th place position. It's only 5 points the deficit to 6th place and so his side will really want to avoid defeat in this one to keep them in touch.

Away from home the side struggles having lost the last 3 at Peterborough (3-0), Millwall (2-1) and Palace (3-0). 2 of the defeats have been to nil which is also a concern, the side isn't prolific in front of goal as we saw against 10 man Cardiff.

In 9 away games going back into last season, Derby County has scored 2 or more on 3 occasions. 1 goal might be good enough to scrape a draw but I think they 2 here and that could be a bridge too far for them.

Betting Verdict

Leicester City are 1.70 favourites to win this game and my money is firmly with them to close the gap on those above them.

I'm taking the hosts on the asian line of -3/4 as I expect Derby County to struggle in front of goal against the Foxes. Leicester may have 1 home win in 3 but they thumped Ipswich for 6 and will want to avenge the poor result at Leeds.

The visitors couldn't beat 10 men Cardiff at home now face one of the strongest home sides in the league. Clough's side have also lost the last 3 away by an aggregate of 8-1 so I can't see the side playing with much confidence at the minute.

With this line we get a payout for a home win and a better one if it's by 2 or more. At the quotes on offer I'm happy to take a chance on Leicester City to bounce back with a solid home win.
