Introduction:
They are meeting for the third time this season in a space of twenty days and they recently met in the quarter finals of the Cup and both teams made one win. However, it was Barcelona who progressed further. Since beating Barcelona, Espanyol played some poor games and lost in the previous two championship games. Barcelona on the other hand, since losing to Espanyol, made four wins, two of which came in the La Liga.

They are dropping down the standings and they need a good match to motivate them. It does not help that they will be facing Barcelona who is currently in good form. Espanyol did showed they can be beaten after beating them once this season and being the only side to beat them so far. That 1-0 win came in the Cup and they lost the return leg by 2-0 and were knocked out of the Cup as a result.
Now they will focus on the La Liga and will not want to repeat their performances against Sevilla in their last home match when they lost by 3-0. In their last match they lost to Leganes by 3-2 away from home as well. They were unlucky that Hermoso scored two own goals in that match.
As for the team news, they have lost midfielder J.Fuego and brought in C.Sanchez into the team.
FC Barcelona
Despite some small problems they still win matches and it is not felt in their results. Their only defeat came against Espanyol but it was in the Cup in the first leg by 1-0 but they won 2-0 in the return leg to progressed to the semi finals. Then they beat Real Betis by 5-0 away from home with all of the goals coming in the second half. Proof where they are not firing on all cylinders can be seen in the home match against Alaves where they only managed to win by 2-1 after a lot of problems.
In the first leg of the Cup semi finals they only managed to beat Valencia 1-0 at the Nou Camp. Messi and L.Suarez are playing well of late and they made the difference against Alaves. Suarez meanwhile scored the only goal against Valencia in the Cup. After being rested in the Cup, Coutinho did made his start for Barcelona against Alaves coming off the bench, together with Paulinho who was also a substitute. Out of the side through injury will be Dembele.
Past Meetings:
Barcelona beat them 5-0 in La Liga when they met back in September.
