Football: Spanish La Liga
14th April 2018 – Kickoff 15:15
Introduction:
Match of the week in La Liga no doubt as it is between leaders Barcelona and Valencia who occupy third in the standings. They are separated by 13 points in the standings and Barcelona is virtually assured of the title this season. Barcelona have 11 points advantage over Atletico Madrid in second spot. For Valencia they are safe in fourth spot and have secured a place in the Champions League next season, but they will want to improve on their position before the season comes to an end.
Barcelona no doubt will be shattered after they were eliminated from the Champions League by AS Roma, while Valencia is in good form and have won their last five league games.
FC Barcelona
They were dealt a big blow in midweek after their surprise defeat by AS Roma going down 3-0 and go out on the away goals as it ended 4-4. They still have a chance to win two trophies but they will be snhattered after their Champions League exit no doubt. It is almost certain they will win the La Liga title, and it is not likely they will drop such a huge advantage at the top now.
Nobody had expected they will go out of the Champions League after winning the first leg 4-1 at the Nou Camp, especially not against a team like AS Roma, which are not one of the top European teams it has to be said. But it can be said that the Catalan side completely under estimated the Italian side and they paid the price for it. They lost by 3-0 and created veery few chances in the match. Even Messi had a poor game and that was one of their worst games this season. It remains to be seen how the Champions League exit will affect their game with Valencia now.
Ad for the team news, there will be changes in the side now and definitely out will be Rakitic as he is out injured.
Valencia
They have achieved their target of finishing in the top four and qualifying for the Champions League so they will be coming into this match in confident mood. They are also in good form in La Liga at the moment and in their last nine games they have managed eight wins. The only drawback was the draw against Athletic Bilbao away from home. Their last defeat came against Atletico Madrid at the start of February, but they also lost to Barcelona in the Spanish Cup.
They have won their last five matches coming into this match now and they have conceded only one goal in that run. They have managed to beat the likes of Leganes and Espanyol both by 1-0. In both games, the key player was Rodrigo. He was also the scorer in all five of their wins in that run. They do not have major problems with injuries with only Coquelin out of the side. It is likely they will rest G.Paulista for this match.
Past Meetings:
The two sides played a 1-1 draw at the Mestalla earlier in the season.
The Pick:
