Football: English Championship
Tuesday 19th October 2021 - Kick Off 7:45pm
Queens Park Rangers
The second half equaliser in the West London derby on Saturday afternoon should have sparked a push from Queens Park Rangers, but Mark Warburton will have been disappointed with the capitulation once Fulham moved back in front. The manager will be looking to bounce back from a big defeat and the Championship schedule means Queens Park Rangers have an early opportunity to do just that on Tuesday.
This time they are back at home where Queens Park Rangers have a 3-2-1 record in the Championship having scored 11 goals and conceded 7 in those fixtures. The early results have taken Queens Park Rangers into 8th place in the League table, but they have dropped a couple of places after results this past weekend.
Queens Park Rangers had gone into the October international break off the back of consecutive League wins, but the defeat to Fulham ended that sequence. Both of those wins had come at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium and Queens Park Rangers have won 4 of their last 6 here in all competitions. In 6 of their last 7 at home, Queens Park Rangers have scored at least twice.
Blackburn Rovers
It looked like the Coventry City away form was once again going to let them down, but Blackburn Rovers blew a 2-0 lead over the high-flying visitors to Ewood Park. A 2-2 draw would have been a disappointment for the players and the management staff, but Blackburn Rovers have to feel they can challenge Queens Park Rangers here.
The two points dropped on Saturday means Blackburn Rovers are 9th in the Championship table, but the 17 points produced is a positive for Tony Mowbray to hold onto. The side have a 1-3-2 record away from home and Blackburn Rovers have scored 7 goals and conceded 8 in those fixtures.
Blackburn Rovers have won 1 of their last 5 League games after the draw with Coventry City, while they have just been struggling away from home like many others in the Division. They have not won any of their last 4 away League games and Blackburn Rovers have lost back to back fixtures at Huddersfield Town and Blackpool.
Head to Head
Both Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers beat the other at home last season.
Queens Park Rangers had not won any of 10 home games against Blackburn Rovers, but they have won their last 2 hosting them.
Prediction
Both of these teams will be looking to bounce back from poor results this past weekend and they will be looking to get back amongst the top six having fallen a couple of places.
Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn Rovers will feel confident in their own ability and that is largely down to the successes they have had in the final third. However, both teams have had issues defensively which has seen them involved in some high-scoring games in recent weeks and I do think this fixture could go the same way.
The home team have been scoring goals for fun at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, but 3 of the last 4 here in all competitions have ended with three or more goals shared out. That underlines some of the defensive vulnerabilities that Queens Park Rangers have displayed and a Blackburn Rovers team that have scored in all but one away League fixture should have some joy here.
However, Blackburn Rovers have also conceded plenty of away goals and their last 4 Championship games have all ended with at least three goals shared out. We should see goals between these clubs on Tuesday with attack the best form of defence and I do think that is the best approach to the game.
The Pick :
Queens Park Rangers 2-1 Blackburn Rovers
