Lyon’s impressive three-match winning streak in the French Ligue 1 came to an end last Friday night when they were handed a 4-2 loss away from home at Strasbourg, but the upcoming hosts will be confident that they can return to winning ways when they play host to Lille at their Groupama Stadium on Friday night.
Lyon had previously posted impressive wins against Brest, Nice and Le Havre respectively and although the hosts have slipped to a sprinkling of defeats in recent times with losses to PSG (home and away), Brest, Marseille and Strasbourg, four of these five losses were away from home.
Switch to results on home soil at their Groupama Stadium though and you’ll find that Lyon have slipped to just one defeat in their last 10 games, picking up seven wins in the process.
Lille bounced back from a previous 1-0 defeat away from home at Nantes last weekend when the visitors registered a welcome 1-0 home win against Lens which in turn helped lift Bruno Génésio’s side up into 5th place in the Ligue 1 table.
However, Lille have produced a somewhat mixed bag of results in recent times in the French top flight and this is evidenced by picking up six wins but also losing four of their last 10 games overall in Ligue 1.
It’s interesting to note that five of Lille’s six wins have been achieved on home soil at their Decathlon Arena while three of their four defeats have been incurred on their travels with losses at Strasbourg, PSG and most disappointing of all, Nantes.
The Betting Verdict
Lyon have scored two goals or more in seven of their last 10 home games which should set the hosts in a commanding position against a Lille outfit who have registered just one win in their last eight outings on the road.
