Only goal difference separates the two Sheffield clubs heading into this weekend’s fixtures in the Championship with United sitting just above their city rivals but Ruben Selles’ side now return to Bramall Lane where they will entertain Millwall on Saturday afternoon.
It would be fair to say that Sheffield United have not made the best of starts so far this season as The Blades have suffered three defeats on the trot; losses in the Championship to Bristol City and Swansea City were further compounded by a 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City in the EFL Cup.
The hosts know they must at least halt this three-match losing streak on Saturday and gain a result in order to kick-start their season under the former Southampton boss if they are to start climbing up the Championship table.
Millwall have experienced mixed fortunes so far in the Championship this season as Alex Neil’s side registered a 2-1 win away from home at Norwich City on the opening day of the season but then slipped up at home against Middlesbrough losing 3-0 at The Den.
In between the two league matches, The Lions recorded a 1-0 win away from home against League Two opposition Newport County in the 1st round of the EFL Cup and the London club only just missed out on a place in the play-offs by a mere two-point margin at the end of last season.
Manager Alex Neil will therefore be urging his players to go one step better and achieve a top six finish this term but if they’re to do so, Millwall will need to improve upon an away record of 6-8-9 20/30 this time around.
