Karlsruher SC looked shaky in some of their recent 2.Bundesliga matches. They were not as convincing as they were at the start of the season, but showed an impressive performance last week after two winless matches.
They won 1-4 away at Greuther Furth, but then lost 3-1 in the DFB Cup against Borussia Monchengladbach. Seeing them recently gave me the impression that you don’t know what to expect from them, although they still belong to the group of teams that will fight for promotion.
So far, Karlsruher SC has been the most dominant and impressive team at home – they won all their first four home matches in the 2.Bundesliga before losing their last home game 2-3 against Kaiserslautern.
Schalke 04
Just five days after Schalke 04 played against SV Darmstadt 98 in the 2.Bundesliga, with Schalke 04 winning 1-0 at home, they met again in the DFB Cup, this time in Darmstadt. Schalke 04 got dismantled in that game, losing 4-0 away, a sobering defeat that should help them keep their eyes on the goal.
Bundesliga promotion is their target this season, with Schalke 04 emerging as leaders after recently winning five in a row.
However, their advantage at the top is ultra-thin, with SC Paderborn, SV Elversberg, and Hannover 96 all breathing down their necks, a point or two behind.
Schalke 04 has really surprised positively so far. Not only did they win 8 of 10 league games, but their defense has been rock-solid. It’s almost unbelievable that they have conceded only five league goals since the beginning of the season in August!
Schalke 04’s away form is also stellar. Their only away defeat was against Kaiserslautern in the first trip of the season, and they have won four matches ever since.

Karlsruher SC has remained unbeaten in five of the last six duels against Schalke 04 (three wins, two draws), but Schalke 04 were the 2-1 winners in their most recent duel in February this year.
