Werder Bremen had a poor start to the season, but they have shown improvement in recent weeks. The good thing about them is that they are now unbeaten in four Bundesliga matches, winning twice and drawing twice, sitting in mid-table.
The 1-1 draw last week against Mainz was not entirely positive, as they should’ve won that game, but it is what it is. Now, they have a chance to climb up the table with a win against out-of-sorts Wolfsburg.
Werder Bremen won their last two home matches against St.Pauli and Union Berlin without conceding, and I like how they have improved their defending, at least at home.
Still, they need to improve scoring, and perhaps they will change that against Wolfsburg, against whom they have a history of high-scoring matches.

Wolfsburg keep going from bad to worse. Their 2-3 home loss to TSG Hoffenheim last week was their fifth in six games, and they are now only two points above the relegation zone.
Wolfsburg’s Dutch coach, Paul Simonis, is now under intense pressure from the board, and some statements made over the week have led me to believe that he will be sacked if his team loses this match against Werder Bremen. That will give Wolfsburg some time to consolidate during the international break, but let’s see first how they do in this match.
If Wolfsburg loses this game, they will equal their worst-ever Bundesliga start since the season 2012/13, when they had only 8 points from the opening 10 Bundesliga games.
Interestingly, Wolfsburg has won only two of their nine games so far, with both wins coming on the road (against weak Heidenheim and Hamburger SV).
