After losing three straight games, Wolfsburg played a 1-1 away draw against the strong TSG Hoffenheim side last week. Perhaps that point will motivate them for an even better display here, where they face one of their main relegation rivals.
Wolfsburg’s coach, Dieter Hecking, said his team will take a more attacking approach in this game than in their last match against TSG Hoffenheim. That is the right way to go in the relegation battle.
Interestingly, Wolfsburg has the best attack among teams in the lower half of the Bundesliga table (35 goals in 26 games), so maybe that will bring them a positive result this weekend.
Wolfsburg are under big pressure for a home win as they rank dead last on the home table. Just two wins in 13 home games so far, and losers in all of their last three at home against Borussia Dortmund, Augsburg, and Hamburger SV.
Werder Bremen
Werder Bremen won two in a row against Heidenheim and Union Berlin before losing 0-2 at home against Mainz last week. They gave up the match against Mainz way too easily, and I expect them to go a bit harder in this game.
Werder Bremen is only four points above Wolfsburg in the second automatic relegation spot. Their 25 points are very little, but history shows they have a chance to stay up with about 8-9 points from their last 8 games of the season.
However, they won't get an easier opponent than Wolfsburg until the end, which is why I think they’ll go harder here.
Werder Bremen is an awful away side, losing four of their last five trips, but perhaps their last 1-4 away win against Union Berlin will give them motivation to go for a second straight road win.
The Betting Verdict
This is another relegation six-pointer at the bottom of the Bundesliga.
Very little separates the sides, even though Werder Bremen has four points advantage over Wolfsburg.
This should be a totally open game, where I believe we will see goals in both nets. That’s my main bet recommendation, and I lean slightly more towards Wolfsburg to win this match.
