Derby County maintained their pursuit of a possible play-off spot last weekend in the Championship with what could prove to be a vitally important 3-2 win away from home at QPR which now gives The Rams a fighting chance of achieving a top six finish in the second tier.
Despite recent hiccups in the form of losses to Coventry City, Southampton and Norwich City (all of which were away from home), Derby County have also collected five wins within their last eight league matches to keep the east midlands club in the hunt on this final day of the season.
Three of these recent five victories were gained on home soil at Pride Park at the expense of Birmingham City, Stoke City and Oxford United while John Eustace’s side possess a very reasonable looking home record of 10-6-6 30/25.
Sheffield United find themselves in 15th place in the Championship table and seemingly very little to play for as The Blades are neither in the picture for a play-off spot but also not involved in any relegation dramas.
It’s a case of re-setting for next season for manager Chris Wilder and his side especially as the Yorkshire club have registered just two wins from their last 10 matches overall in the Championship which were in the shape of wins against Hull City and Watford, but also includes slipping to five defeats as well.
A rather ordinary looking away record of 8-2-12 26/32 suggests the visitors may well come up short against a highly motivated Derby County outfit on Saturday lunchtime.
