Crystal Palace v Ipswich Town
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 12th September 2026 - Kick Off 3pm

Crystal Palace

It feels the last week has been an important one for Pierre Sage and his new Crystal Palace team having won back to back games and scored six goals across those victories. The squad has not quite settled with transfer targets becoming distracted, but the close of the summer window will have helped and Crystal Palace have plenty of experience to aid the new manager in his role.

Three points at Craven Cottage last Saturday will feel very good for fans of The Eagles and Crystal Palace have a big opportunity to build some serious momentum into the September international break. Back to back home games are coming up, but Crystal Palace were thumped in the League opener at Selhurst Park and will want to bounce back immediately.

Crystal Palace followed the Premier League win at Fulham by beating Middlesbrough 3-0 at Selhurst Park in the League Cup Third Round. Before the win at Craven Cottage, Crystal Palace had lost 4 of the last 5 Premier League games played and that adds to the importance of picking up an opening three points. Home form has tended to be stronger and Crystal Palace have lost 2 of the last 12 at Selhurst Park in all competitions and those have been against Manchester City and Arsenal.

Ismaila Sarr and Eddie Nketiah could potentially be available this weekend, but Jean-Philippe Mateta is still absent.

Ipswich Town

Gary O'Neil is experienced as a Premier League manager whose ambition is to keep his team in the top flight from his time with Bournemouth and Wolves and he had been successful at doing that. That should mean the manager is not going to be one that overplays losses to the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool and instead O'Neil will be showing his players some of the positive work they got through.

Points matter more than praise, but Ipswich Town are not going to consolidate their place in the Premier League through those fixtures against some of the best teams in the Division. Those will be seen as 'free hits' for Ipswich Town, but they have three points on the board from a home win over Sunderland and The Tractor Boys will have circled games like this one where they can look to pick up valuable points.

Ipswich Town opened the season with consecutive wins at Portman Road in all competitions, but they have conceded seven goals in losing the last two at Old Trafford and against Liverpool last Friday. They actually scored first at Manchester United, but Ipswich Town's second half capitulation means they have won 1 of the last 5 away games in all competitions.

Jaden Philogene and Azor Matusiwa are both doubts for this fixture.

Head to Head

Two years ago, Crystal Palace beat Ipswich Town in both Premier League games by the same 1-0 scoreline.

The win at Selhurst Park has extended Crystal Palace's run to 3 successive home victories against Ipswich Town.

Prediction

It is no surprise that Crystal Palace are odds on to win this Premier League game after scoring six goals in consecutive wins over the last week.

Pierre Sage does want his team to get forward and score goals, but it should also be noted that Crystal Palace have conceded at least twice in all 3 Premier League games played.

Being on the front foot has perhaps left Crystal Palace more open at the back than anticipated and Sage is still working on the balance with his new squad.

The fans will be expecting an attacking display considering Crystal Palace are facing an opponent that have conceded in all 4 games played in all competitions. Ipswich Town have conceded seven goals in the last couple of Premier League games and Gary O'Neil is another new manager working on his methods to get the best out of his current squad.

He will be encouraged by how Ipswich Town have looked getting forward and they had begun the season by scoring at least twice in each of the first 3 games played. The run was ended by Liverpool last time out, but Ipswich Town looked like they are capable of hurting opponents and there are vulnerabilities in this Crystal Palace team.

For all the positives around this Crystal Palace team- and there are plenty over the last couple of years- it should also be noted that they have won just 10 of the last 38 home Premier League games played.

It makes odds on quotes look really short and the similar price of seeing at least three goals shared out feels more comfortable to back.

Both teams have shown they can get into the final third and hurt opponents and they are playing against defensive units that have not exactly convinced early in the season. The approach of Crystal Palace in particularly has led to some wide open games already this season and it would not be a big surprise if both The Eagles and Ipswich Town find the back of the net.

A 1-1 scoreline is perhaps the dangerous one, but the opening month of the new season suggests Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town can combine for at least three goals here on Saturday afternoon.
