Nürnberg have been one of the best teams in the 2.Bundesliga so far. They are still unbeaten after six games, with five wins and one draw, and sit second on 16 points. Their goal difference is also impressive at 16:6.
The home record is even stronger. The Club have won all three games at the Max-Morlock-Stadion, scoring nine and conceding only two. They also have Mohamed Alì Zoma in excellent form, with six goals already making him the 2.Bundesliga’s top scorer.
Coach Miroslav Klose faces one setback: Finn Ole Becker is ruled out after his meniscus operation. Still, Nürnberg have enough going forward to trouble Wolfsburg, especially in front of their home crowd.
Wolfsburg
Wolfsburg are not far behind, with 11 points from six games and 15 goals scored. They have already shown how dangerous they can be, beating SV Darmstadt 98 5-1 in their last game.
The problem is that they have also dropped points. Before their last win, Wolfsburg drew 4-4 with Energie Cottbus at home, then lost 1-0 at St. Pauli. This is also a much tougher away game against the only other top-four team that hasn't lost yet.
Wolfsburg also have some defensive concerns. Cleiton is doubtful, while Mattias Svanberg is definitely out. Timon Wellenreuther is another doubt after illness.
The Betting Verdict
This is a proper test for Nürnberg, but I’m taking the home side at excellent odds. They have won all three at home and have looked very solid without the ball as well.
The Nürnberg win is around 2.35-2.65, depending on the bookmaker. That is a big enough price for me to take the chance on a team that has won five of six and has been excellent at home.
