LIVERPOOL v EVERTON

PREVIEW

Liverpool have spent a hell of a lot of money on this team, and put a lot of faith in this manager, but they are still doing bugger all in the Premier League, which also unfortunately means this side does not get Champions League football, and the money that comes with it. What this side have managed to do is play well in Cup competition. Not good enough, but this is a Cup match, so hey ho.

Liverpool already have success this season in Cup competition, winning the Carling Cup after being taken to penalties by a plucky Cardiff side. Kenny Dalglish's side have some great performances in this competition too, ousting out Manchester United, and they are now in the semi-finals and looking for the win that would pitt them against either Tottenham or Chelsea, who play their semi-final London derby game on Sunday. Liverpool have their Hillsborough hang-up, so they are playing on the 14th. Bit of a joke, allowing that, and unfair on the other sides, especially Chelsea, but that's another story.

Liverpool actually trail 7th placed Everton, behind by a point, in the league tables, but they have gotten the better of their neighbours in both league encounters. Andy Carroll and Suarez netted at Goodison park for a 2-0 win, and at Anfield it was captain Steven Gerrard who played the role of hero for the Anfield faithful with his hattrick, as the Reds kept another clean sheet. This time round it will be harder, because the defence is shorn of not just their 1st, but 2nd choice keeper too.

It looks like Brad Jones will be taking his place in goal for this one, as he made his debut in midweek in that win over Blackburn. With his first touch, he saved a penalty but then surrendered 2 goals to Blackburn, before Carroll saved the day for the Reds late on. Everton have a striker in fine form, Nikica Jelavic, who has scored 4 in just 8 games since joining from Rangers. He is going to be tough to handle and then there is Tim Cahill, who is finding form too.

I'm not going to have a bet on the outcome of this match, because I don't care. No actually scratch that. Dalglish is a annoying character, while Moyes has my respect, so I hope the Toffees turn over this overhyped Liverpool side, which has been the 2nd worst side in the league in 2012. If the season start on 1st January, Everton would be 4th and Liverpool would be 19th. And that says all you need to know about current form.

BETTING VERDICT

Looking back at recent results I see that Liverpool beat Blackburn 3-2, and then prior to a 1-1 draw with Villa, the Reds surrendered at least 2 goals in 3 straight games, going down 2-0 to Newcatle, 2-1 against Wigan, and losing 3-2 to QPR. These Reds are not as defensively sound as they were at the start of the season, and you have to fancy anyone to score against them, especially with the goalkeeper problems!

Everton match up well here. The Toffees have scored at least 2 goals in 5 straight games. Swansea, Sunderland and West Brom were all beaten 2-0, before a 2-2 draw with Norwich and then a resounding 4-0 thrashing of Sunderland. Everton look worth taking in the Total Goals market to take advantage of Liverpool.
