Analysis:

Palermo were surprisingly beaten in their last match coming into this encounter while Parma on the other hand simply cannot afford another defeat anymore as they are battling against relegation.

Palermo were beaten by Bari 4-2 last weekend and that sent shock waves to the team as they were in high confidence going into the game. Palermo are still in the top six with 34 points so it is still a great achievement for them.

Palermo did not spend much in the transfer window so they are expected to preservere with the same squad until the end of the season. Fabio Simplicio was supposed to move to Inter but then decided to stay while Rubinho moved to Livorno.

Parma on the other hand are struggling at the bottom end and have only managed a draw in their last five matches. Their tie against Inter at the weekend was called off due to snow and it is probably a good thing for them as it gave them more rest and also something to think about.

With regards to the team news for Palermo, Fabio Liverani and Cesare Bovo misses out due to suspensions. Dorin Goian will step in at the back while Mark Bresciano will return in midfield which means Antonio Nocerino will move to the centre of the field. Javier Pastore will be given preference here rather than Simplicio.

For Parma, boss Francesco Guidolin will not have at his disposal Hernan Crespo as the Argentine striker picked up a minor injury during his last game with Genoa and could be out for two weeks. Valeri Bojinov will shoulder the responsibility upfront to get the goals. Damiano Zenoni is also out so Cristian Zaccardo will play wide on the right. Newly signed Luis Jimenez will be on the substitute bench at least.
