2010-08-28 - Derby County vs QPR
A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter
Football : England : NPower Championship
Saturday 28th August 2010 – Kickoff 3pm
Derby County take on the form team in the Championship when they host early league leaders QPR at Pride Park on Saturday.
Rangers have been rampant in their first three matches, winning all three and looking for a fourth straight win when they travel to the East Midlands. There’s every chance they could walk away with something here as The Rams are yet to record a win in this campaign.
Derby County (16th)
Derby's results have all ended in 3 goals being scored so far this season; winning 2-1 away at Leeds United in the opener, then losing 1-2 at home to Cardiff City and 1-2 away to Coventry City last weekend.
The arrival of Nigel Clough last season has not been the instant success that was anticipated, and they continue to battle away amidst their inconsistency which has let them down since dropping out of the Premiership.
Striker Kris Commons is desperate to resolve his contract negotiations, and this surely can’t be helping him and his focus up front at the moment.
The optimistic news however, is that Derby have scored in all of their last twelve home matches bar one, a 0-1 defeat to Swansea City back in February, and this is where I think there’s an opportunity for some value in this fixture.
Queens Park Rangers (1st)
Derby's opponents, QPR, have swept aside all in their path so far (it's early days I know), but when a side score nine goals in their first three matches, you kinda sit up and take notice; 4-0 v Barnsley at home, 3-0 away at Sheffield United and then a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe United at home.
Jamie Mackie, Heidur Helguson and Adel Taarabt have all scored a brace so far, with Taarabt also providing 4 assists as the Moroccan midfielder is in sparkling form at the moment.
Renewed belief and Warnock's added steel to the side, The Hoops are playing attractive, attacking football at the minute, and know exactly where the goal is right now.
Rangers also possess a good record over Derby at Pride Park, having been unbeaten in their last five visits (won three, drawn two), but given the unpredictability of the Championship, I'm erring on the side of caution and backing a few goals instead.
The Betting Verdict :
Despite Rams inconsistency, I believe they're good enough to score at least one goal in front of their home faithful, with on-fire QPR probably supplying the other necessary goals in this one.
