Match Preview :

This is the match of the week in Italy, as Inter Milan host Lazio and Inter will no doubt aim to reduce the gap at the top when they welcome Lazio to the San Siro.

After a poor start to their season under Gian Piero Gasperini, Inter thre brought in Claudio Ranieri and he changed them into a winning side already since his arrival. This then continued in the Derby della Madonnina triumph last Sunday as Diego Milito scored the only goal of the game.

Inter defended well against Milan, which showed how their winning streak has instilled confidence in the team during which they conceded just one goal. They are just six points behind leaders Juventus and will no doubt be serious title contenders.

Meanwhile, Lazio sit a point above Inter in the standings and ended a run of three games without a win after beating Atalanta in their last match at home. Hernanes and Miroslav Klose kick-started Lazio’s 2012 after a poor result the week before at Siena. However that win was just their fourth at home this season.

Lazio play better away from the Stadio Olimpico with good away record shared amongst Juventus and A.C Milan. As it is now Lazio trails Inter on goals scored on their travels and will do battle with their attacking strength against Inter's poor backline.

Last season Mauro Zarate (who is now with Inter) scored for Lazio first, but Inter recovered to win 2-1. Inter has better past meetings with Lazio, winning on 38 occasions compared to Lazio’s seven. There have been 23 draws between them.

Wesley Sneijder is their main tactical dilemma heading into this match as he is now fit again.

Ranieri has Ricky Alvarez operating on the left of the midfield four with freedom to move centrally and the Dutchman could be allowed to move deeper in the side, as a link to lone striker Milito.

Thiago Motta is suspended and Diego Forlan is once again out injured. Sulley Muntari is away at the African Cup of Nations and the condition of Dejan Stankovic will be assessed before kickoff

The likes of Hernanes, Andre Dias, Lorik Cana and Libor Kozak will all aim to prove their fitness howewever, Stefano Mauri is a long term absentee.
