2013-03-16 - Catania vs Udinese
A Sports Betting Pick by ROzsolt
Football : Italy : Serie A
Venue: "Stadio Angelo Massimino", Catania
Saturday 16th March – Kickoff time: 18:00 GMT+1
Catania (8th W12 D6 L10)
Catania dropped a place in the Serie A table after recording back to back defeats and currently sit on the 8th position with 28 points from 28 matches.
Catania’s Europa League spot bid was looking solid two weeks ago when they were hosting Inter Milan and took the lead early in the match with two goals, but Inter managed to fight the strength to get back into the game and even collect all points thanks to a 90th minute Palacio goal.
The Sicilians didn’t learn their lesson and leaked in another injury time goal in Turin against champions Juventus (0-1) after a good defensive performance, which must have been frustrating for Maran’s squad.
Catania will now try to get back to their winning ways, but they have to do it without defender Ciro Capuano and striker Gonzalo Bergessio who will miss this one out through injury, while defender Nicolas Spolli starts a two-match ban.
Udinese (9th W10 D11 L7)
After a three match unbeaten run Udinese is now just one point behind Catania and will be looking for their fourth away victory of the season in order to move further up on the table.
The Friuli side showed a lot of character in their previous match in Serie A getting back into the game after defender Thomas Heurtaux was sent off, to salvage a point against AS Roma.
Udinese have not lost a game at the Stadio Friuli since the 1-4 defeat to Juventus back in September, but they haven’t been doing great on the road as well, they’ve actually lost three of their last four away games.
The Bianconeri have several doubts for this match, Mehdi Benatia, Giampiero Pinzi, Andrea Lazzari and Giovanni Pasquale and more importantly top scorer Di Natale should all miss out through injury.
The Betting Verdict
Udinese picked up a victory on their last travel, but it was obtained against a struggling Pescara side and prior to that the Bianconeri’s away performances have been quite modest.
Catania chases a European spot, but they’ve been very unfortunate in the past two weeks not to pick up points against Inter Milan and Juventus. It must be frustrating to keep those two out for 90 minutes only to concede injury time goals.
However, they did show a lot of quality recently, especially at home where they hold a solid W9 D2 L3 record and they will be facing a crippled Udinese side, so I expect them to record their 10th home victory of the season on Saturday.
