2008-11-22 - NAC Breda vs NEC Nijmegen

A Sports Betting Pick by Erik

NAC Breda - NEC Nijmegen
Saturday 22nd November 2008 - Kickoff 18.45

NAC Breda (2nd 8-1-2 22:10)

NAC Breda is currently on the second place in the ranking with 25 points from 11 games and being only one goal short for the top position in the ranking.

The team has known an excellent season so far with NAC Breda winning eight from their last eleven games with striker Amoah being the revelation so far with eleven goals in eleven games.

Last week NAC Breda booked a solid 3-0 home win over Heracles Almelo thanks to goals from Cairo, De Graaf and Zwaanswijk in the second half with the team slightly struggling in the first half to break down the visitor’s defense.

Injuries/suspensions :
Ellery Cairo (att) (calf), Martijn Reuser (att) (shoulder)

NEC Nijmegen (7th 5-3-3 15:12)

NEC Nijmegen recorded a 0-3 defeat last week on the road to Roda JC with the team conceding the opening goal very early in the first half.

Due to the defeat NEC dropped to the seventh place in the ranking increasing the gap to the leaders in the ranking Ajax to seven points.

Before the game against Roda JC, NEC was working on a good series of games beating PSV 1-0 at home, Sparta 0-2 on the road and drawing 2-2 at home to FC Groningen in a game NEC actually should have won.

Injuries/suspensions :
Ramon Zomer (def) (suspended), Collins John (att) (knee)

The Verdict

The game between NAC Breda and NEC always asks for a special approach, with the game being called ‘The Little Classic’ and always good for some surprises.

Over the last few seasons NEC has managed to book some more very good results in Breda winning six times in their last ten meetings and drawing twice. Only two times NAC Breda managed to keep three points at home and the big question is can they do it for a third time on Saturday?

The hosts are on an excellent streak over the last few games winning their last three games without conceding a goal. However, NAC Breda is a team that - although booking some very good results over the last few weeks - is not very consistent at home losing twice already this season. Four weeks ago FC Twente left Breda with three points after a 0-1 win while also Willem II managed to book a win over NAC Breda in September.

With both NAC Breda and NEC being more than capable of keeping a clean sheet I don’t expect many goals in this game. Last week NAC had some trouble in breaking through the Heracles defense and if NEC decides to play for a draw, I am very confident they will get it.

Taking into account that the hosts will miss their fast and creative winger Cairo due to a calf injury, NEC holding an excellent record on the road to NAC Breda and the pressure of having to cope with defending their position in the ranking, taking NEC not to lose seems the way to go here.
