Mid-table Heerenveen take on a Feyenoord outfit who currently sit just six points off Excelsior in the relegation zone, and upon first glance at the league table you'd be excused for thinking home win.
But when you delve a little deeper you find that Heerenveen are without a home win now in three matches after losing 1-4 to Groningen and 0-2 to AZ Alkmaar with a 0-0 draw against NEC sandwiched in between.
Their last match away at Willem II was a classic example of their recent slump in form and confidence that, despite holding a 2-0 lead, still lost 3-4 to a side currently sitting rock-bottom in the league.
On paper, Heerenveen's home record is a good one; 7-3-3 29/17, but their recent performances haven’t matched their record of late. To lose in the style that they did against a side of Willem’s quality is an ominous sign indeed.
Feyenoord (14th - 28 pts)
Feyenoord despite sitting in 14th spot have revived their fortunes of late on the back of an unbeaten run of four matches which has seen them win at home against Heracles 2-1 and last week’s 5-1 win over Groningen, along with creditable draws at Vitesse 1-1 and 2-2 at Den Haag.
Feyenoord's away form of 0-5-8 10/32 suggests that the visitors don't stand a prayer, but given Heerenveen’s shaky self-confidence, we cannot discount backing them with the +0.5 handicap which well and truly looks a worthy bet.
Feyenoord may even record their first win on the road of the season, but let’s not get too carried away here. Luc Castaignos (9 goals) leads the way with Georgino Wijnaldum (8 goals) is also a threat. The latter should also be fit following a bout of flu in the week.
The Betting Verdict :
Heerenveen are really struggling at the moment, and the value and momentum seems to be with the away side in this fixture - Feyenoord may well earn another valuable point in a 1-1 draw perhaps.
