Barnet head into this Tuesday night fixture at The Hive against Chesterfield on the back of a defeat away at AFC Fylde, losing on penalties in the FA Trophy after the scores were level after normal and extra time.
The hosts return to league action this evening where they’ve now gone five matches without a win in the National League following draws with Boreham Wood, Solihull Moors and Sutton United as well as defeats to Braintree Town and Sutton United.
Barnet have dropped down to 17th place and just one point above their visitors, Chesterfield, with both teams still firmly involved in the relegation battle towards the bottom of the division.
Barnet hold a home record that stands at 4-4-6 15/19 which includes just one win from their last six matches which was a 2-0 win against Dover Athletic, and The Bees have kept just three clean sheets at home all season, so there’s no guarantees of all three points for Barnet in this one.
Chesterfield parted ways with former manager Martin Allen last month after he failed to get the then newly relegated Chesterfield side firing on all cylinders, and after four months of some really frustrating and ultimately disappointing results, Allen was shown the door.
Former manager, John Sheridan, who is in his second spell at the club, took over and Chesterfield have responded almost immediately as The Spireites have suffered just one defeat in his seven matches in charge so far, which was a 1-0 home defeat to 7th placed Harrogate Town on the weekend.
Sheridan is an experienced operator in the lower leagues and he’s made his mark on this Chesterfield team immediately as The Spireites have picked up points in draws with Solihull Moors, Ebbsfleet United and Barrow.
In addition, Chesterfield have lifted themselves out of the relegation zone thanks to recent wins against Aldershot, Halifax and Fylde, while away from home, the visitors have lost just once in their last 10 away matches which was an understandable loss at 3rd placed Leyton Orient.
Forwards Fortune (7 goals) and Kiwomya (3 goals) are Chesterfield’s most likely anytime goalscorers.
The Betting Verdict
Barnet have been struggling of late while John Sheridan has breathed new life into this Chesterfield side and the visitors look good for at least a point here.
