Football: Italy Serie A
25th October 2019 – Kickoff time 21:45 [Verona, Italy Time]
Introduction :
Sassuolo in 17th spot faces a challenging test when they travel to face Verona in 14th spot on Friday Night Football in Serie A.
Verona:
Verona who were promoted to Serie A this season, gave Napoli a difficult match last weekend even though the scoreline of 2-0 suggested otherwise. They tried hard to score but their attempts were saved by Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret who ensured the score remains goalless in the first half.
Verona are currently 14th in Serie A with 9 points and they are a tough side to beat at home losing just once at the Stadio Bentegodi in a 1-0 defeat to Milan back in September. In that match they were even down by 10 players. Coach Ivan Juric has his side playing a high tempo match and they have beaten Lecce and Sampdoria this season. They have managed draws with Bologna, Udinese and Cagliari.
Verona's defeat have come against the likes of Milan, Juventus and Napoli, but they are still confident they can avoid the drop this season. They don't score many goals as they only scored six in their opening eight matches since the start of the season.
As for the team news, they are without the likes of Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, Daniel Bessa and Giampaolo Pazziniwho are out injured.
Sassuolo
Sassuolo almost managed to get the draw against Inter Milan last Sunday. However they were not able to find a fourth goal in the 4-3 defeat. Domenico Berardi’s sixth league goal of the campaign cancelled out Lautaro Martinez opening goal at the Mapei Stadium before Antonio Conte’s men went 4-1 up after they got two second half penalties awarded to them.
Filip Duricic and Jeremie Boga scored two goals for them in the last quarter of the match but for it was too late for Sassuolo as Coach Roberto De Zerbi's side suffered their third defeat in a row. They still have a game in hand as their game with Brescia was postponed to December.
Sassuolo have only won twice so far this season, at home to Sampdoria and SPAL, and haven’t won away in Serie A since a 1-0 at Fiorentina back in March. That was their only win in their last 15 matches on their travels. They have scored 14 goals but then again they have conceded 16 goals.
As for the team news, Brazilian Rogerio will be out for the next month, while Vlad Chiriches and Gianmarco Ferrari are rated doubtful for this match. Midfielders Mehdi Bourabia and Luca Mazzitelli are also struggling to be fit in time for this match.
Past Meetings
Sassuolo won by 1-0 the last time they visited this stadium back in 2018.
