Brest responded to two recent defeats on the trot with a 1-0 home win against bottom placed club Montpellier in last weekend’s action in the French top flight and the upcoming hosts will hold home advantage once more on Saturday night when they play host to 5th placed Lille at their Stade Francis-Le Blé.
Recent losses to Lens and Marseille prevented Brest from moving higher up into the top half of the Ligue 1 table where they now sit in 9th place but some 10 points adrift of the European spots in the division.
Nevertheless, Brest have made themselves a tough outfit to beat on home soil at their Stade Francis-Le Blé as Eric Roy’s side possess a very reasonable looking home record of 9-3-4 29/21 which includes picking up wins against high-flying Strasbourg and Monaco.
Lille bring a promising looking four-game unbeaten sequence into Saturday night’s encounter at the Stade Francis-Le Blé as the visitors have collected three wins and a draw in recent weeks in the domestic top flight, but there’s still further work ahead for Bruno Génésio’s side if they’re to secure a European spot.
Recent victories gained over the likes of Toulouse, Auxerre and Angers have maintained Lille’s claims for European football next season and although they trail 3rd placed Monaco by just a single point, they also have 7th placed Lyon just three points behind them and breathing down their necks.
Despite winning their last two away games on the trot, the wider picture suggests Lille may have to navigate a tricky outing here on Saturday evening as the visitors have managed to win just three of their last 11 away games in Ligue 1, whilst losing four and drawing four.
The Betting Verdict
Brest are unbeaten in their last four meetings at home against Lille.
