Augsburg lost all their last three Bundesliga games against Bayer Leverkusen, Holstein Kiel, and VfB Stuttgart. They will seek to at least finish this season with a victory, which will see them end close to the mid-table.
Augsburg had a solid Bundesliga season after flirting with relegation last season. They were clear of relegation almost all season and felt comfortable, never in real danger.
Augsburg was a decent home team up until a few weeks ago, when they declined. They won only once in their last six home games, failing to win any of their last three (two defeats).
Union Berlin
Union Berlin is almost certain to finish 13th in the Bundesliga regardless of this or any other result. That’s a good finish for them, after being near the bottom in the first part of the season.
The real revival came in March and April, when Union Berlin went on a stunning unbeaten run of 8 consecutive games (five draws, three wins), which saved their season.
Union Berlin lost 0-3 at home to Heidenheim last week, but they were pretty solid at their recent travels, going unbeaten in four trips (two wins, two draws).
The Betting Verdict
This is a game without any significance. Both teams are finishing in the lower part of the Bundesliga table, but Augsburg perhaps owes it to their fans one final good performance before going on break.
History also favors Augsburg. They remained unbeaten in 10 of their 11 Bundesliga duels against Union Berlin, winning six times and drawing four matches. Augsburg also won the first duel 0-2 this season.
It should be an open game with a fair share of chances, but I give Augsburg the advantage to win it.
