Next it’s off to Washington for this upcoming Group G tussle between the AFC Champions Al Ain and Italian Serie A giants, Juventus, when the two teams begin their Club World Cup campaigns at Audi Field.
Al Ain produced somewhat of a welcome recovery in their domestic UAE Pro League towards the end of last season as Vladimir Ivić’s side put together a decent looking seven-game unbeaten run which consisted of four wins and three draws.
End of season victories against Al Orooba, Baniyas, Al Sharjah and Al Nasr Dubai glossed over the cracks that had appeared earlier in the UAE top flight campaign which saw last season’s AFC Champions League winners slip to a five-match losing streak beforehand.
The majority of Al Ain’s goals have come from striker Soufiane Rahimi who finished top scorer in last season’s Champions League, but they are vulnerable at the back.
Juventus will therefore be keen to exploit any weaknesses in Al Ain’s defensive unit as the Old Lady look to get their Club World Cup campaign off to a winning start in Washington on Wednesday night.
Juventus finished last season’s Serie A campaign in 4th place as they also finished their domestic campaign in unbeaten fashion, putting together a five-match unbeaten run which included securing important wins against the likes of Monza, Udinese and Venezia respectively.
Indeed, having slipped to just one defeat in their final nine games of last season’s Serie A campaign, Igor Tudor’s side will be in confident mood as they prepare to take on what is something of an unknown quantity in the shape of Al Ain.
