Football: English Premier League
Saturday 14th March 2026 - Kick Off 3pm
Burnley
There are no less than ten games left on the schedule as far as Burnley are concerned and Scott Parker will be well aware that his team need to find something very quickly if they are going to close the gap to those above them. In recent weeks the players have shown plenty of character, but Parker may be aware that Burnley have just lacked the quality that has been needed at critical moments within matches.
They were not in action last weekend when the FA Cup Fifth Round was played, but Burnley concluded the last round of Premier League fixtures in 19th place in the standings and 9 points from safety. An inferior goal difference compared with some of the relegation rivals means Burnley need a very strong end to the campaign to have any hope of retaining top flight status, but the 2-4-8 record at Turf Moor has let them down.
Burnley came from 2-0 behind to beat Crystal Palace in the Premier League early last month, but have lost 3 of the next 4 games in all competitions. The last fixture at Turf Moor almost summed up the season with Burnley showing tremendous mettle to rally from 0-3 down back to 3-3 against Brentford, but they were still beaten 3-4 on the day. Burnley have now lost 3 in a row at home in all competitions since the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
Marcus Edwards and Zian Flemming are hoping to be involved this weekend, but Axel Tuanzebe and Armando Broja remain doubtful. A host of longer term absentees remain missing from the squad.
Bournemouth
Andoni Iraola may have appreciated having a few more days to work with his young players on the training ground in a bid to just get Bournemouth motoring again. An early exit from the FA Cup offered Bournemouth a free weekend, and the manager may be working with his attackers who have produced a couple of extremely wasteful performances which have slowed the push for European Football.
The Cherries are 9th in the Premier League table, but they are now 4 points behind Brentford in 7th place and there are a host of clubs in and around Bournemouth who will have ambitions of earning a place in Europe. They will be travelling to the North West with a 3-6-5 away record in the top flight this season.
Bournemouth have not been beaten in any of the last 10 games in all competitions in normal time, but 4 draws in the last 5 Premier League fixtures has slowed some of the momentum. The side had won consecutive away Premier League games at Wolves and Everton before Bournemouth were fortunate to leave the London Stadium with a point.
Lewis Cook, Ben Gannon-Doak and Justin Kluivert will all be hoping to return to action after the March international break.
Head to Head
An injury time goal helped Burnley pick up a point in a 1-1 draw at the Vitality Stadium earlier this season.
They have lost the last 2 games at Turf Moor by the same 0-2 scoreline when hosting Bournemouth.
Prediction
Both Burnley and Bournemouth have suffered early exits in the FA Cup and that means the managers have had a few more days to prepare the teams ahead of this fixture.
This is an important game for both Scott Parker and Andoni Iraola who will want to oversee a couple of important results before the March international break, albeit for very different reasons.
Burnley have yo-yoed between the Championship and Premier League over the last five years and they have not had two consecutive seasons in either Division since 2022 which ended with a relegation from the top flight.
They have cracked 100 Championship points in 2023 and 2025, but Burnley only managed 24 points in the Premier League in between and they are on 19 points for this season.
Scott Parker has proven to be a manager that can guide teams up into the top flight, but he has yet to have much success at this level and Burnley have not coped with the step up as they would have hoped. There have been some positive performances, but Burnley have just lacked the quality at both ends of the pitch and that is likely going to cost them top flight status.
Last time out at Turf Moor, Burnley fought back from 0-3 down against Brentford, but it was yet another game in which they have given up far too many chances. They were eventually beaten 3-4 and Burnley may struggle to contain Bournemouth who will have used the extra days on the training ground working on their finishing.
Andoni Iraola's men created enough chances to win the last couple of home games against Sunderland and Brentford, but Bournemouth were wasteful in the final third and that cost them four points. They still have momentum with a long unbeaten run to protect, while Bournemouth had won League games at Wolves and Everton before the goalless draw at West Ham United.
Defensively there remain some question marks about this Bournemouth team, but they will have successes getting forward and the extra quality may eventually make the difference.
Draws have been a problem for Bournemouth all season and they comfortably lead the Premier League in that regard, but this is a team that score plenty of away goals and that may see them have a bit too much for Burnley.
The last two games at Turf Moor between these clubs have both been won 0-2 by Bournemouth- the likelihood is that Burnley can at least score this time, but it is Bournemouth who may still leave this part of the North West with three points in the pocket.
