Slovenia will head into this World Cup qualifier opener in Group B in a confident frame of mind as the hosts are unbeaten in their last five internationals overall which includes collecting wins against Slovakia, Luxembourg and Bosnia & Herzegovina respectively.
The latter two victories were gained in international friendlies but nevertheless, Matjaž Kek’s side have also picked up draws against the likes of Austria and Slovakia as well, thus making Slovenia a potentially tough opponent for visitors Sweden when the two nations meet at the Stadion Z’dežele on Friday night.
Slovenia had earlier finished in 3rd place in League B Group 3 of the last edition of the Nations League where they won two, drew two and lost two of their six group games but they did manage a 3-0 win against Kazakhstan along with holding Austria to a 1-1 draw on home soil.
Sweden found themselves in League C in the previous Nations League campaign after producing disastrous campaigns in this competition but nevertheless, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side won Group 1 at a canter, winning five of their six unbeaten games in the group.
Home and away victories gained over Estonia and Azerbaijan along with a 2-1 home win against Slovakia ensured League B football for the Swedes in the next edition of that competition but they’ll now turn their attentions to the serious matter of World Cup qualification on Friday night.
Sweden have failed to win any of their last four World Cup qualifiers suffering three defeats to the likes of Georgia, Spain and Poland, while picking up just two wins from their last away ties in World Cup qualifiers.

Slovenia therefore stand a decent chance of gaining a result of some sort against a poor-travelling Sweden outfit.
