After a 6-0 drubbing by Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig bounced back quickly with back-to-back wins without conceding, against Heidenheim (2-0) and Mainz (0-1). They were surprisingly stable and commanding in both wins, and it looked like the opening heavy defeat did not bother them at all.
Unfortunate news from last week’s win is that two standard players got injured. Midfielder Xaver Schlager and winger Antonio Nusa are both out, so coach Ole Werner will have to mix things up in the midfield.
On a positive note, the latest team signings, Romulo and Bakayoko, both played well in their debuts and both have scored a goal.
RB Leipzig has a very positive recent record against Koln, going unbeaten in six straight matches against them (three wins, three draws).
Koln
Koln is defying the odds and surprising everybody with their results so far. Incredibly, despite being just promoted to the Bundesliga, they are unbeaten after three rounds, winning twice and drawing once.
They also showed some pretty impressive attacking performances. After beating SC Freiburg 4-1, they played a 3-3 draw away at Wolfsburg last week. Marius Bulter and Jakub Kaminski were notable players, scoring two goals each for the team.
Koln’s Dutch defender Rav van den Berg is set to be out for several weeks after falling on his shoulder last week and now requiring a surgery.
The Betting Verdict
The last time Koln visited Leipzig was at the end of October 2023, when they got hammered 6-0. They have not beaten RB Leipzig in six games, so this will be a difficult trip for them.
RB Leipzig are in excellent shape after winning twice in a row, plus the latest signings fitted in very well and scored for the team.
This could be a closer game than expected, where I believe RB Leipzig will emerge as the winners at fair odds.
