Barnsley’s three-match winning streak in all competitions came to an end last weekend when The Tykes slipped to a 1-0 loss away from home at Blackpool but the Yorkshire club now return to Oakwell where Conor Hourihane’s side will be not only looking to bounce back with a win but to also remain in the play-off pack in League One.
Barnsley currently occupy the last of the early places in the play-off pack in the English third tier despite last week’s loss but having previously accounted for the likes of Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town as well as Reading in recent weeks, the hosts will still feel confident about their chances on Saturday afternoon.
In addition, Barnsley still remain unbeaten on home soil in this season’s League One campaign with a home record that stands at 3-1-0 10/6.
Port Vale occupy 19th place in the League One standings as the visitors have managed to capture just two wins from their opening nine league matches so far this season, but Darren Moore’s side have collected back-to-back wins against Exeter City and Mansfield Town in recent weeks.
The Valiants had previously produced a disastrous start to life back in the domestic third tier as Moore’s side had failed to win any of their opening seven league matches, slipping to five defeats in the process.
However, unexpected wins against Birmingham City and Leeds United U21 in the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy respectively gave Port Vale a springboard from which to stage a recovery.
