There is very little experience for Union Saint-Gilloise compared with some of the other clubs they will be facing in the Champions League, while the additional challenge is having to 'host' outside of their home Stadium. Last season they did make it through to the Knock Out Rounds in the Europa League, but a thumping loss to Newcastle United on Match Day 2 is a reminder of the challenges that the Belgian Champions will face.
Dismissing the chances of Union Saint-Gilloise would be a mistake and it was felt on these pages that they could test Newcastle United. Giving away a couple of Penalties didn't help, but Union Saint-Gilloise did win handily at PSV Eindhoven on Match Day 1 and were only beaten twice in home fixtures in the 6 Europa League fixtures hosted last season.
Union Saint-Gilloise suffered consecutive losses to Newcastle United and Club Brugge before the October international break, but they returned with a 3-1 home victory over Charleroi this past weekend. The side have won 11 of the last 14 games they have hosted, although the one defeat in that time was in the Champions League game played earlier this month.

Inter Milan
A slow start to the new season looks to be behind Inter Milan who have been able to move into 2nd place in the Italian top flight. They reached the Champions League Final last season and Inter Milan are once again looking comfortable at this level being one of the six clubs who hold a perfect record going into Match Day 3 of the League Phase.
There will be one eye on the upcoming fixture to be played in Naples against the defending Champions, but Inter Milan would like to keep the momentum behind them ahead of that significant test. Comfortable wins over Ajax and Slavia Prague have been earned in this Champions League Group, and Inter Milan would love to keep the wins coming with the fixture list being backloaded against some of the tougher opponents they could face.
Inter Milan scored very early at Roma this past Saturday and they held on for a 0-1 win and a sixth straight victory in all competitions. Late goals saw Inter Milan beaten in an epic game in Turin against old rivals Juventus (4-3), but they have won 3 away games in a row in all competitions since then and kept clean sheets in those.
Matteo Darmian is expected to miss out, while Marcus Thuram is also doubtful.

This is the first time these two clubs are meeting in a competitive fixture.
Prediction
There is a real disadvantage to not being able to host matches in their own Stadium and Union Saint-Gilloise were well beaten in the first of those fixtures against Newcastle United.
Some of the defending was pretty poor, which didn't help, and Union Saint-Gilloise are not nearly as experienced as so many of the opponents they are likely to see in the Champions League.
However, they did show what they can do when winning in Eindhoven and so deserve plenty of respect.
On Match Day 3, they are hosting an Inter Milan team that looks pretty settled after the early struggles.

Last season they reached the Champions League Final and this is an experienced squad with real quality in the final third, which makes them a solid looking favourite here.
Inter Milan held on for a 0-1 win on Saturday in Rome, but that was the first time in 7 games that they have failed to score at least twice. With the defending that Union Saint-Gilloise produced against Newcastle United, Inter Milan will be expected to breach this team at least twice and maintain the perfect start to the League Phase.
