West Ham United

The board are unlikely to be as snappy as Nuno Espirito Santo's previous club Nottingham Forest when it comes to a decision about the manager, but the pressure is building already. Most of the fans are voicing their frustrations at the ownership group, but Espirito Santo will be well aware that he needs to help his team find results and pretty sharpish.

Losing football matches will always irritate, but West Ham United have been really poor in the recent defeats to Brentford and Leeds United. Most worrying is that the everyone will have seen those matches as 'winnable' but The Hammers were second best by some distance and they have been left in 19th place in the Premier League table and 5 points from safety. Playing at home has been particularly tough and West Ham United have the worst record in front of their own fans in the Division as they stand at 0-0-4 this season.

West Ham United did fight back for a point at Everton in Nuno Espirito Santo's first game in charge, but they have lost all 3 Premier League games played since then and 5 of the last 6 overall. The home performances have been terrible for months and West Ham United have not won any of their last 9 Premier League games at the London Stadium, while losing 5 in a row here.

Konstantinos Mavropanos is a doubt and Oliver Scarles is set to miss a number of weeks after an injury suffered in the defeat at Leeds United. Niclas Fullkrug could be available, while the manager is sure to make some changes to the starting eleven in a bid to find positive solutions to the current problems.

Newcastle United

Eddie Howe will be pleased to have taken Newcastle United back into the League Cup Quarter Final just months after helping the club end the long wait for silverware in the same competition. The extra fixtures being played in the return to the Champions League has made it difficult for Newcastle United to build real momentum though with the squad perhaps not as deep as would be needed, but there are positive signs that the team are getting to grips with the demands being placed on them.

The Magpies picked up three points last weekend thanks to a very late goal, but that has pushed them up into 12th place in the Premier League table. It is a congested Division right now so there are only 6 points between Newcastle United and 2nd placed Bournemouth, but closing that gap would mean improving the 0-3-1 away record where the side have scored 1 goal and conceded 2.

Newcastle United have won 3 games in a row in all competitions, although all have been played at St James' Park. They had begun the season with 3 away goalless Premier League draws before losing 2-1 at Brighton, but Newcastle United do have a convincing 0-4 win at Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League in the midst of that poor away Premier League run.

Yoane Wissa could be part of the travelling squad this weekend, which would be a huge boost for Newcastle United. Lewis Hall could return during the week, but Tino Livramento is targeting the fixture immediately after the November international break to make a return of his own.

Head to Head

Both Premier League fixtures between West Ham United and Newcastle United were won by the away side last season and with clean sheets.

West Ham United have not won any of the last 6 home games against Newcastle United and been beaten 4 times in that run.

Prediction

The fans have never liked seeing West Ham United play at the London Stadium and there is a real feeling that the players are failing to overcome the pressure that has built and built in this part of East London.

You could excuse some of the results to some extent if the performances had been there, but that is not the case for West Ham United.

The Hammers have lost all 4 home League games played this season and they have perhaps been fortunate that the last two final scores have not reflected the way the fixtures have shaped up. Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur scored at least three times here and both Crystal Palace and Brentford have scored twice, but could have had more, and Nuno Espirito Santo is under some pressure to get things turned around very quickly.

He has had more than a week to work with the squad after the early League Cup exit and West Ham United last being on acton on a Friday night.

However, the job looks a really tough one with Espirito Santo trying to pick up a group that were beaten 2-1 at Leeds United in another poor performance. The home defeat to Brentford days earlier was in another embarrassing effort and West Han United could find themselves cut off in the relegation zone of this Division if they are not careful.

By the time this fixture kicks off, the League table could make even tougher reading for West Ham United and it is hard to know how they can contain Newcastle United.

Eddie Howe's team have not exactly been lighting things up away from home, but Brentford had lost all 3 away League games before rocking up to the London Stadium and dominating in a 0-2 win. At least Newcastle United can point out that they have been tough defensively prior to the 2-1 loss at Brighton, while that was also a game where The Magpies looked more likely to win before conceding late on.

Newcastle United have enjoyed recent visits to this part of East London, while they have a midfield that should be able to dominate and dictate the tempo of the fixture. Being stronger defensively should allow the pacy wide players to hit West Ham United hard on the counter, while Newcastle United can exploit what has been a real Achilles Heel for the hosts when it comes to defending set pieces.

Joe Rodon was the latest to benefit and it would surprise no one if someone like Dan Burn or Malick Thiaw were to score in this one (a selection for the Prop market chasers).

3 wins in a row has given Newcastle United momentum and it is very difficult to see how that changes here.

West Ham United have just looked really short of the quality that is going to be needed to survive at this level and The Magpies have the capabilities of underlining that statement.

Goals have not been easy to find away from home this season, but Newcastle United have been creating chances at Brighton and Aston Villa in previous away League games. They also showed what can happen when things go right in the win at Union Saint-Gilloise, albeit on a neutral field as far as the Belgian Champions go, and Eddie Howe's men can score at least twice in a winning effort against a defensively shaky host that have shown little improvement under a new manager.
