Burnley
The home upset against Mansfield Town in the FA Cup Fourth Round hurt the Burnley players and the supporters were not very shy in letting everyone know how they felt. Scott Parker won't have been too happy either, but the key players were restored last weekend and Burnley have picked up important points either side of that Cup upset to keep hopes alive of somehow avoiding relegation.
Last Saturday Burnley took advantage of Chelsea being reduced to ten men to earn an injury time equaliser, although they remain 19th in the Premier League table and 8 points from safety. The side need some big results at Turf Moor to really begin to feel like they can move out of the bottom three, but Burnley have a disappointing 2-4-7 record here.
Burnley fans may have feared the worse after consecutive Premier League losses to Sunderland and West Ham United, but they have picked up 4 points from the last couple of League fixtures. They had been unbeaten in 3 at Turf Moor in all competitions, but Burnley have suffered defeats to West Ham United and Mansfield Town since then.
Axel Tuanzebe and Armando Broja are closest to a return as Burnley continue to deal with a long injury list, but both may still have to wait a few more days.
Brentford
Using the data has been a big part of the development of Brentford and those managing the numbers will believe the team were a little unfortunate to lose at home against Brighton last weekend. Keith Andrews will be looking for a positive reaction from his squad and the manager will be confident he will get that from a Brentford team that have been overachieving.
Losing last week means Brentford have fallen to 5 points behind the top six places in the Premier League, but most supporters will be very proud of The Bees being 7th in the current standings and with a FA Cup Fifth Round tie to come. Improving the 5-0-8 away record to keep in touch with those above them has to be the motivation for Brentford who are about to embark on a potentially positive part of the schedule.
Brentford had been unbeaten in 4 games in all competitions and had won 3 times in that run before the 0-2 home loss to Brighton last Saturday. The players will have been hurt by the defeat last time out, but Brentford have enjoyed playing on their travels in recent weeks and have won 6 of the last 7 away games in all competitions.
Aaron Hickey and Michael Kayode are both doubts, although the latter is perhaps more likely to be involved.
Head to Head
All four goals were scored in the last ten minutes when Brentford hosted Burnley at the Gtech Community Stadium earlier in the season and it was The Bees who came through with a 3-1 win.
Visits to Turf Moor have been much tougher for Brentford who have not won on any of their last 5 trips to this part of the North West, while losing 3 in a row.
Prediction
Some grounds seem to bring out the worst of teams and Brentford have struggled to find their best when playing at Turf Moor.
Even in seasons in which Burnley have ended being relegated from the Premier League, Brentford have been beaten here.
In 2021/22, Burnley were three goals ahead in the first half, while the last trip to Turf Moor ended in a 2-1 defeat after Brentford were reduced to ten men inside 8 minutes.
Assuming they can not hand over the early initiative, Brentford have to be confident in their chances of earning a big result here to just push forward their European aspirations.
Losing last week would have hurt, but Brentford are still creating a lot of threat in the final third and that is likely to be the case on Saturday. They will get forward with pace and quality and Igor Thiago continues to be a threat, even as the goals have dried up a little bit in recent weeks.
Burnley will be encouraged by the home record against Brentford and Scott Parker's team have fought back for a 2-3 win at Crystal Palace and a 1-1 draw at Chelsea in recent Premier League games. That should have given the players confidence, although Parker has to find the balance in Burnley's play with the fans wanting the team to push forward in search of three points that may just give them real belief that they can avoid relegation.
It has been all or nothing in Brentford away games this season with 5 losses to go with 8 defeats, but recent form on their travels is hugely encouraging.
Brentford have won 6 of the last 7 away games played in all competitions and they have been very good in the final third in a number of those victories. Even the exception in that run- the defeat at Stamford Bridge- Brentford were very good going forward and they may just showcase the attacking edge in this fixture.
You have to respect some of the resilience that Burnley have shown in recent games, but the pressure is on them to get forward when playing at home. This has led to plenty of goals being conceded here in recent games and Brentford may just find the attacking play to win a fixture that features at least two goals scored by the away team on the day.
