Last Saturday's 1-3 away victory at Mainz finally ended a terrible stretch of seven Bundesliga games without a win for Eintracht Frankfurt. Can Uzun scored twice and Jonathan Burkardt added another as the Eagles produced their best Bundesliga performance of the season, moving them up to ninth with four points from three games.
The result also showed that Adi Hütter's side can cause problems going forward. Eintracht Frankfurt have scored seven times in their three Bundesliga games, although they have also conceded eight, so there is still plenty of room for improvement at the back.
There is an interesting boost from the head-to-head record. Eintracht Frankfurt have avoided defeat in their last eight Bundesliga meetings with SC Freiburg and have taken points in 12 of the last 13. At home, they have also taken 10 points from the last 12 available against the SC Freiburg side.
SC Freiburg
SC Freiburg have been outstanding so far. They beat Werder Bremen 4-1, SC Paderborn 0-1 and then destroyed Borussia Mönchengladbach 5-0 last week. Three straight Bundesliga wins at the start, and a 10:1 goals record is their best-ever Bundesliga start.
On top of all that, counting together European games and the DFB-Pokal match, SC Freiburg have won their first six competitive games of the season, scoring 22 goals along the way.
The attacking numbers are especially impressive. Igor Matanović has scored four goals and made a goal assist in the last four competitive games. Matanović and Yannik Engelhardt each scored twice against Borussia Mönchengladbach last week, delivering stellar performances.
This is a tougher test, though. Eintracht Frankfurt have historically been a difficult opponent for SC Freiburg, and the hosts should be much better equipped to punish any defensive mistakes than SC Paderborn or Borussia Monchengladbach were.
The Betting Verdict
This is a difficult one to call from the result market. SC Freiburg deserve plenty of respect after winning their first three Bundesliga games, but Eintracht Frankfurt's recent record against them and the boost from the Mainz win make the home side too dangerous to dismiss.
The goals market looks appealing. Eintracht Frankfurt have conceded eight times in three Bundesliga games, while SC Freiburg have scored 10 and kept two clean sheets. At the same time, the visitors have scored in every competitive match this season, so I expect them to test Eintracht Frankfurt's defense.
Over 3.5 goals is available at around 2.10, and that is the price I like here. Eintracht Frankfurt have already been involved in 3-3 and 1-4 Bundesliga games, while SC Freiburg have scored 4+ goals in four of their last five competitive matches.
My top betting recommendation is Over 3.5 goals. SC Freiburg's attack is flying, but Eintracht Frankfurt have enough going forward to contribute to an open game.
As for the result, 2-2 or 2-1 is what I feel strongest about.
