English League Two

A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter

Chesterfield v Hereford United
Football : England : League Two 2010/2011
Saturday 21st August 2010 – Kickoff 3pm

It’s a return visit to Chesterfield for the first time this season, as they take on Hereford United at their b2net Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides have made a reasonable start to this campaign, starting with a win, followed by a 1st round exit of the Carling Cup, then backed up with a draw – a certain symmetry to recent results you could say.

Chesterfield (5th)

Chesterfield started their League Two season with a 2-1 over Barnet, but were then dumped out of the League Cup losing 1-2 against Championship promotion favourites Middlesbrough. They then travelled to Micky Adams’ Port Vale and earned a creditable 1-1 draw, despite being outplayed for most of the match.

Chesterfield striker Craig Davies completes a three-match suspension and is out of contention for the visit of The Bulls, however, the Spireites have signed former MK Dons striker Dean Morgan on a free transfer and he’ll more than likely join last season’s leading scorer Jack Lester up front.

Forward Drew Talbot has hit early season form providing 2 assists so far (he made 3 assists all last season), while attacking midfielder Dwayne Mattis has notched 2 goals in 2 games, with striker Jack Lester scoring 1 so far.

I have Chesterfield in a top six finish this season, and if they are to improve on last season’s 8th place finish, it will depend largely on Lester’s return up front I fancy.

Hereford United (9th)

Hereford United began their campaign with a 1-0 win at Crewe Alexandra, never an easy place to get points. But then they too were sent crashing out of the Cup losing 0-3 to League One outfit Colchester United, and were probably kicking themselves for drawing 0-0 with Gillingham at home last weekend.

The Gills, apparently touted as promotion favourites this season by some, but I’ll wait and see what happens over the next few weeks if last season’s away form is anything to go by – they failed to win an away match all season!

Today’s visitors, Hereford United, normally struggle on the road as last season’s away record shows; 5-4-14 22/40 as they finished 16th, but manager Simon Davey has instilled a bit more belief for The Bulls and an away win first match up at Crewe isn’t bad at all.

However, they look a little light up front with 21 year-old Mathieu Manset leading the line, as he’s still learning his trade.

Midfielder Kenny Lunt will provide experience and guile in the middle of the park, but The Bulls lack a proven goal scorer to convert those half-chances that he’ll create, so I see them having their hands full against an attacking Chesterfield side at home.
