2012-09-18 - Stevenage vs Walsall
A Sports Betting Pick by Lamps
Football : England : League One
Tuesday 18th September - Kickoff 7:45pm
Stevenage
Boro are flying this season currently in 3rd place with 12 points from their 6 games played. On Tuesday they host fellow high flyers Walsall at the Lamex with a win sending them potentially top if other results of their way.
Smith is doing an excellent job taking over from Westley. The side were narrowly beaten in the playoffs last season but have really kicked on this time around.
The side is unbeaten in 6 games with 3 wins and 3 draws. At home Stevenage drew with Carlisle (1-1), Shrewsbury (1-1) and Crewe (2-2). Bizarrely all the wins have come away from home but eventually this must change.
Including last season it's 4 draws in a row but before then Boro won 3 straight at home. In every home game this year both sides have scored and with the visitors in good form I think this run may continue.
Walsall
Smith's Walsall have 1 point less than Stevenage and occupy 5th spot in the table. Having won back to back games Walsall enter this one really high on confidence and will certainly give Stevenage a game on Tuesday.
3 wins in the last 4 over Notts County (0-1), MK Dons (1-0) and Portsmouth (1-2) have been very impressive. Especially the first 2 as County and MK are very good sides in this division.
Walsall are unbeaten on the road this year with 2 wins and a draw in 3 games. Walsall won their last away game last season but before then the side went 7 games without a win. Whatever Smith has done in the summer it's paying dividends and Walsall may be the real deal this season.
The only negative is that despite the positive results against MK and County in both games they were dominated. If it wasn't for poor finishing by their opponents then they would have been soundly beaten. Still it's a results business and the visitors are in very fine form at the moment.
Betting Verdict
Both encounters last season ended in draws and that looks a live play in this one.
There isn't a lot between the sides in the table and we have a situation of the hosts unable to win at home and the visitors undefeated away.
However, Stevenage are odds on favourites for this which doesn't seem right. This is the second Walsall away game in a few days which can't help their preparation but they should put up a good fight in this one.
The away side are the value play between the 2 but I will side with unders as my bet. I expect Walsall to frustrate Boro for long spells as they did to MK and Notts County. Boro are due a win at home and because of that I want 1-0 and 2-0 on side even though I think this will end all square. I don't see a goal fest here and believe the unders is the best play.
Good Luck
The Pick :
Stevenage 1-1 Walsall
