As pointed out last week, Cercle is lacking offensive power to score goals. GBA shutout Cercle, but weren't able to create much themselves so it resulted in a 0-0 final score.
That makes it 2 draws in a row for Cercle, after a draw against Charleroi in the first round. Now they are playing big brother Club Brugge, and because they share the same stadium home advantage will not be so big.
This will be the biggest test for Cercle Brugge so far, to see how far they are under new manager Bob Peeters. This is his first job as manager and so far it's hard to draw any conclusions. But it can be concluded Cercle hasn't shined so far.
Club Brugge
Club Brugge is trying to play their offensive style, and they showed how good they can execute that last match, 4-1 against Sint-Truiden.
But the first match of the season was a big disappointment, as they lost 1-0 to Kortrijk. Club Brugge have a strong squad and have multiple options up front, with all qualities available.
Pace, strength, technique and finishing is there, but it's not always working out the way it should and could be. Add to that they are prone to naive defending, and can lose focus which leads to conceded goals at bad moments.
But manager Koster has worked on this from the start of last season and it’s getting better.
The Betting Verdict
Club Brugge is absolutely on a different level as Cercle Brugge, and want to fight for the title till the end. That'’s only possible if they are able to win this kind of matches too.
Cercle will do everything they can to give Club a hard time, but they don’t have the qualities to make it a physical battle or play their own attacking game.
This should give Club Brugge the initiative, and that’s when they are at their best. Using the flanks, passing combinations and pressure on the opponent, if Club Brugge can get into that rythym it’s gonna be 3 points.
