This season he should at least repeat the same feat as the class of players in the tournament does not mean it will be a big problem for him. Other then the finals last season, he has also played in two more finals which are the tournament in Washington and Next Gen Finals in Milan. In those finals he was beaten by A. Zverev and S. Tsitsipas.
Enroute to the quarter finals, he managed to beat R. Opelka.
Thompson
Thompson who is also from Australia is not playing as well as his opponent. He is five years older then De Minaur and he is 24 years old. He reached his best career ranking a year ago when he was the 63th player of the world. Before this tournament, Thompson was on the 72nd place of ATP ranking with last year's ratio of 1:11 in terms of wins and losses ratio.
He also played at the tournament in Brisbane before this where he lost to today's opponent in the second round. As we can see from last year's ratio of wins and losses, it does not give a good things of what is to come this season. Other then the ATP tour, Thomspon managed to win three titles from the challenger tournaments.
