This clash could be a danger one for Geelong as it is on interstate soil, but I think that the Cats have the goods to overcome the Swannies.
Sydney Swans
The Swans have an up and coming list after quite a few men have gone out over the last few years.
This game will be fought in the trenches early with players such as Jude Bolton and Kieran Jack doing their best through the middle.
If Sydney can hold the Cats early through the middle and players like Reid, Goodes and White can nail a few early goals the Swans have a good chance of keeping it tight. Ryan O’Keefe is a major player and will need to be somewhere near his best.
The Swans defence will be tested and Grundy and Richards will be a couple of key names who will need to be string against their direct opponents I they are to have any chance of stopping a potential onslaught.
Geelong Cats
The Cats have a strong defence and with Josh Hunt, Matthew Scarlett and Darren Milburn across the backline the Swans will not find it difficult to penetrate and post a solid score.
The experience in this area of the field for the Cats will be their strong point and I don’t think the Swans will be able to score any more than 85-90 points, and that is not a good score against the Cats.
In the middle the names roll off the tongue for the Cats. The feature player is Jimmy Bartel. He seems to leave his best performances for the big games, especially over the last 2 seasons, but with Ablett gone expect to see Bartel feature more.
Alongside him you will find Kelly, Varcoe and Selwood as the major players, with Corey and Enright offering the experience and consistency through the guts of the field.
The attackers led by Stokes and Johnson will make things tough for their opponents and with other forwards like Mooney, Podsiadly and Chapman it could be a long night for the Swans.
The Betting Verdict
I cannot see anything other than a win for the Geelong Cats on the road.
