2012-09-29 - Hull City vs Peterborough
A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter
Football – England – Championship
Saturday 29th September 2012 – Kickoff: 1500hrs
Hull City will look to maintain their 100% winning home record when they entertain ‘pointless’ Peterborough United at the Kingstons Communication Stadium on Saturday afternoon and should they do so, they could go joint-top of the Championship.
Hull City
Steve Bruce, who I have a lot of time for as a manager, has previously taken Birmingham City up to the Premiership and knows what has to be done in order to achieve promotion. Had it not been for Carson Yeung delaying and pussy-footing around when the club was up for sale, who knows, Brucie might still be at Blues. Anyhow, water under the bridge, move on.
The Tigers have been impressive at home so far this term with wins over current Championship leaders Brighton 1-0, ex-Premiership Bolton Wanderers 3-1 and Millwall 4-1. Therefore, their home record stands at an imposing 3-0-0 8/2, and they’ve actually won their last six matches at home on the trot scoring 15 goals and conceding just 5.
Manager Bruce builds his teams on a strong defence and this is beginning to show at Hull City where they’ve conceded just 8 goals in total overall behind only to Brighton (4), Huddersfield Town (6) and Blackpool & Wolves (both conceded 7).
Abdoulaye Faye and Jay Simpson are the leading scorers with 3 goals each, while Simpson has also chipped in with 3 assists. Robert Koren and Sone Aluko have both scored 2 goals and Ahmed Elmohamady has produced 2 assists along with midfielder Stephen Quinn.
Peterborough
Woeful is the only word I can use to describe Peterborough’s season so far; The Posh have lost all seven of their matches so far straight and have scored just 5 goals in total including home & away matches in the Championship.
Darren Ferguson is currently in his second stint at the club, but I wonder how much patience he’ll be shown during this tenure, particularly if they go down at Hull City on Saturday.
Peterborough’s away record stands at a miserable 0-0-3 2/8 and have lost at Leicester City 0-2, Burnley 2-5 and even Birmingham City 0-1. They always seem to be among the goals in most of their matches, however, most of the goals scored are in their net. They have also endured a wretched run away from home of fourteen matches without a win in which they have not registered a single clean sheet.
Lee Tomlin is their leading scorer with just 2 goals and whilst George Boyd and Grant McCann are probably their other most dangerous players, they just seem to lack that quality that could get them out of trouble.
The Betting Verdict :
Hull City lost at Leicester City 1-3 last Sunday and Steve Bruce will be impressing upon his players the importance of bouncing back immediately against Peterborough on Saturday.
I’ll back a miserly Hull City defence to keep things tight at the back and for the hosts to run out 2-0 winners here.
The Pick :
Hull City 2-0 Peterborough
