I still think that was a value punt on Tuesday when we were offered too large a return on the Middlesborough win. Like the other big priced visitors on that day in the Champions League, 'Boro did not get beaten, and did well for the draw against a good performance from Nottingham Forest, who were strong at home. Sheffield Wednesday gave us our first loser of the month as they fell behind early and lost 2-0 to visiting, mangerless Blackpool. On the road, against 'Boro, who were on a run of 5 straight league wins, and a scalp of Premier League side Sunderland, before the hiccup draw, they are likely to have their hands full.
Before being held to a goalless draw, Middlesborough had thrashed Charlton away, banging in 4 goals. Their last 2 home games have seen them score 2 goals in each, beating Bolton 2-1 and Hull 2-0. Sheffield Wednesday's little revival came to a halt as they failed to even score, that too at home. They had struggled to beat Posh at home 2-1 and their away form shows poor returns, with the win at Ipswich an anomaly in a run that has seen them get beaten almost all the time when away from home.
Middlesborough also have motivation, which is crucial when betting on a side. They cannot afford to drop points because they must milk home advantage for everything if they are to make it back to the big time. Drawing on Tuesday meant they missed their chance to go top, and with Crystal Palace administering a 5-0 tonking to move a point ahead, the home side must react with a decisive win here to move back to the top to reclaim their 2 point lead, even if just for 19 hours.
BETTING VERDICT
I feel the Middlesborough win is a cert, and at prices of 1.94 they are a great bet to win at home. I'm feeling like we could be leaving money on the table if we go just for the straight win, as the result could be decisive. There is more than just a goal between these two sides, and so I'll take the home team giving up 1 ball on the AH. We get our money back with the narrowest of wins, but a win by 2 or more gives us a handsome payout.
