In-form Walsall entertain Crawley Town on Saturday afternoon with the midlanders looking to build on their recent upturn in form and close the gap on the top six clubs in League One.

Walsall turned in another impressive display on Tuesday night when they beat play-off candidates Tranmere Rovers 2-0 at home to further strengthen their case for a play-off place come May. That midweek win extended their unbeaten run to eight matches now as The Saddlers have hit their straps at just the right time with teams like Bournemouth, previously in red-hot form, starting to wobble.

Recent wins over Oldham Athletic, league leaders Doncaster Rovers (away from home 2-1), Carlisle United, Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere, along with valuable points at third placed Brentford and fourth placed Swindon Town have pushed Walsall forward as potential play-off candidates and knocking on the door to the top six.

Walsall’s home record stands at a much improved 9-5-5 30/25, are ten matches unbeaten on home turf and have won seven of their last eight straight which is great momentum going into this match.

CRAWLEY TOWN

Visitors Crawley Town also produced an impressive result on Tuesday night as they nicked an unlikely point at Huish Park in a dramatic 2-2 draw with in-form Yeovil Town after trailing the west country outfit 0-2.

That result extends their unbeaten run to four matches now but this includes three draws (at home versus Carlisle United and Notts County), and away at Yeovil. They did beat Bury away from home 2-0 at the beginning of this month, but a trip to an emerging Walsall side is a vast difference.

Crawley Town currently sit mid-table with an away record of 8-3-7 20/24 and they’ve held their own this season which has been a great achievement for a club that was playing a level below the Blue Square South just a few seasons ago.

THE BETTING VERDICT:

That said, I fancy Walsall in this encounter, not just because they have home advantage but their confidence levels and momentum going into this match are most impressive; I’ll back them with the round ball but Walsall could win this one 2-1.
