Nurnberg is in a serious crisis mode, and pressure keeps piling on their legendary coach, Miroslav Klose. Anyone else would have likely been sacked by now, but Klose enjoys full support from the sporting director, even though the start is horrible.
Nurnberg is the only 2.Bundesliga team without a single win after five rounds. They lost four of those five matches, including their last one, 2-1 away at Karlsruher SC.
Incredibly, Nurnberg scored only twice in five games this 2.Bundesliga season, but not a single goal at home. Their only point so far came in the goalless home draw against SC Paderborn.
VfL Bochum
Bombshell news from Bochum this week is that they unexpectedly decided to part ways with their 61-year-old head coach, Dieter Hecking.
Hecking took over the coaching job at VfL Bochum ten months ago, when the team was heavily struggling, and he remained with them even after they dropped out of the Bundesliga, but unfortunately, his mission is over.
It came as a surprise to many, but the very poor start couldn’t be ignored. The club board hoped for a quick Bundesliga return, but as things stand, VfL Bochum is incapable of that.
VfL Bochum have suffered 4 defeats in 5 matches this season. Last week’s 1-0 defeat against SC Paderborn was their third straight defeat, which triggered Hecking’s dismissal. Unknown 38-year-old David Siebers takes over, but I doubt he can turn things around so quickly.
VfL Bochum was absolutely dismal at away stadiums this season, losing all their three away 2.Bundesliga games against SV Darmstadt 98, Schalke 04, and SC Paderborn.
The Betting Verdict
Both sides started terribly, and this is a regional derby where motivation should be higher.
I believe that Nurnberg are slightly better overall despite being the only second-division side without a win.
There is huge pressure on Nurnberg to achieve their first win, and I think they can do that here. In some games they were just unlucky, and are certainly better than being at the rock-bottom of 2.Bundesliga.
This could be a tense and physical encounter, considering that both sides linger in relegation spots, but I would go with Nurnberg to get their first win of the season at high odds.
