Nottingham Forest
The Europa League is an important competition for Nottingham Forest and they have work to do if they want to make it through to the Quarter Final of the competition. A wasteful performance was punished on Thursday in the First Leg, while there is also a huge battle in front of Nottingham Forest in their bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
The last set of results allowed West Ham United to close to within a point of Nottingham Forest in 17th place in the Premier League table. The Tricky Trees did earn a 2-2 draw at Manchester City to stay above the drop zone, but now the challenge is to improve the 3-4-7 record at the City Ground.
Nottingham Forest fans might have felt there was a real change in the air when the team won 0-3 at Fenerbahce in Vitor Pereira's first game in charge, but they have not won any of the next 5 in all competitions and been beaten 4 times. The side have not won any of the last 6 home Premier League games and Nottingham Forest have been beaten 3 times in a row here in all competitions.
Stefan Ortega, Dan Ndoye and Jair Cunha are all expected to miss out.
Fulham
There will have been a huge amount of frustration after the FA Cup Fifth Round defeat last weekend when Fulham were controversially denied an opening goal. A big opportunity had opened up in the FA Cup and now Marco Silva has to try and pick his players up and look for a strong conclusion to the Premier League season.
Uncertainty remains about the future of Marco Silva, but his Fulham team are in 10th place in the Premier League table and still in touch with the likely European places. A key to returning to European Football has to be improving the 4-2-8 away record in the Division as Fulham continue to chase West London rivals Brentford in 7th place.
Fulham have continued to be a streaky team- they had lost 3 in a row, followed up with 3 wins in succession and have now lost 2 in a row again. Both of those defeats were at Craven Cottage, which adds to the disappointment, but Fulham have won the last 2 away games played at Stoke City in the FA Cup and Sunderland in the Premier League.
Harry Wilson is expected to return having missed the last two games.
Head to Head
Fulham beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 at Craven Cottage earlier this season.
They have also won on 5 of the last 6 visits to the City Ground, including a 0-1 win here in September 2024.
Prediction
This feels like a huge game for Nottingham Forest and Vitor Pereira has to be hoping that his team can find something in the final third.
They have not played poorly under his watch, but they have been really wasteful in the final third and that was on display in narrow defeats to Liverpool and Midtjylland.
Nottingham Forest cannot afford too many more performances like that, especially in the attacking areas, and there could be real pressure on the players if West Ham United have upset Manchester City on Saturday evening.
Those could all be potential factors and Nottingham Forest have struggled in front of the home fans.
A team like Fulham are more than capable of doing enough to exploit the nerves and they have won 2 away games in a row in all competitions.
However, it is really difficult to know what you are going to get from Fulham who have strung together wins and losses over the last few weeks. Back to back home defeats will have dented the confidence, but they missed Harry Wilson in those matches and his return could make Fulham a lot more dangerous going forward in this one.
There have been some tight matches played by these two teams, but both Nottingham Forest and Fulham are capable of getting on the scoreboard.
The price for the home win looks short, but Fulham are a mixed team and very hard to know what you are going to get.
Instead it may pay to back this game finishing with at least three goals shared out, which could be in play if an early goal sparks the fixture.
These two teams can be wasteful, but they should both create good opportunities and it is backing players to have their shooting boots on this Sunday. You have to expect there is enough quality to believe that can happen and there is enough motivation for both teams to believe an attacking fixture may end up being played out.
