Galway United slumped to a second defeat in three games in the Irish Premier Division last week when John Caulfield’s side were dealt a disappointing 1-0 loss at home to Dundalk which has left Friday night’s hosts sitting in 7th place in the table and just two points above the relegation play-off spot.
Indeed, recent results have only served to heap further disappointment upon Galway United as they have managed to register just one win from their last nine league matches in the Irish top flight.
That rare highlight came in the shape of a resounding 4-1 win away from home at Sligo Rovers but although Galway have picked up points in four draws, four defeats have overshadowed their modest success in recent times, three of which have been on home soil at their Eamonn Deacy Park.
Derry City occupy 6th place in the Irish Premier Division table but the visitors do hold a four-point cushion above their Friday night’s hosts heading into this upcoming clash with the visitors keen to put further daylight between themselves and the bottom two clubs.
Derry City recorded a much-needed three points last time out in the domestic top flight by virtue of inflicting a comprehensive 4-1 home win over Bohemian FC but the visitors have not been without problems of their own in recent weeks either.
The visitors had previously failed to win any of their preceding seven league matches although they did manage to pick up important points in five draws and slipping to two defeats - but it's been just these two losses in their last 12 matches overall.
