Borussia Dortmund come into their Bundesliga opener after losing 2-1 to Bayern in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
Fabio Silva's late goal gave them hope, but they were second best for much of the game. The positive is that Niko Kovac has had another competitive match to work with before starting the Bundesliga campaign.
There is plenty of attacking quality in this Borussia Dortmund side. Serhou Guirassy remains the main goal threat, while Konstantelias and Karetsas are expected to play behind him.
Borussia Dortmund do have some defensive concerns, though, with Emre Can and Nico Schlotterbeck both ruled out. Also, their talismanic winger Karem Adeyemi joined Barcelona this summer, so to me they look a bit weaker than last season, but we will see how things play out.
Hamburger SV
Hamburger SV could hardly have asked for a better cup opener. They won 3-0 at Verl, with Albert Gronbaek scoring twice and 16-year-old Louis Lemke adding a memorable third.
It was a professional performance and gives Merlin Polzin's newly promoted side some confidence before a very different test in Dortmund.
The interesting part for bettors is that Hamburger SV are not coming here simply to defend. Gronbaek has looked lively, while new striker Patson Daka gives them pace in attack.
They also showed last season that Borussia Dortmund can be uncomfortable for them: HSV led 2-0 at Signal Iduna Park in March before Borussia Dortmund produced a late comeback to win 3-2.
The Betting Verdict
Borussia Dortmund are rightly strong favorites at home, but the price is short. The more interesting angle is adding the goals to the outcome.
Borussia Dortmund have defensive absences, while Hamburger SV have enough pace to cause problems on the break.
The recent head-to-head is hard to ignore too. Borussia Dortmund are unbeaten in the last seven meetings with Hamburger SV (six wins), but Hamburger SV scored twice in the most recent one and led 2-0 before losing 3-2.
I expect Borussia Dortmund to control most of the game and eventually get the win, but Hamburger SV should have their moments and perhaps score once.
My angle here is Borussia Dortmund to win, combined with at least three goals scored.
