Analysis:

Arsenal have a score to settle when they face Wigan in the Carling Cup Quarter-finals. Back in April, it was Wigan who ended Arsenal's title challenge when they scored three goals in the last 10 minutes to win 3-2 at the DW Stadium.

Not only that, back in the 2005/2006 Carling Cup semi-finals they were also knocked out of the Carling Cup after Jason Roberts scored deep in extra-time. That brought Wigan to their first ever Final although they were thrashed by Manchester United 4-0 in the finals.

Arsenal reached the final the following year only to lose to Chelsea going down 2-1 but the fact remains they are still without a trophy since winning the FA Cup back in 2005.

Wenger fielded some of his youngers and despite that still managed wins over Tottenham and Newcastle in the previous rounds. Wenger is set to name a strong squad for this clash, although Wigan will be encouraged by the fact Arsenal have already been beaten three times at home this season.

Wigan meanwhile have only managed one away win in the Premiership, but that win was against Tottenham, who surprisingly beat Arsenal 3-2 just ten days ago.

After that defeat Arsenal then lost to Braga 2-0, , but they bounced back to win 4-2 at Aston Villa on Saturday and are second in the standings behind Manchester United.

Wigan were beaten by relegation candidates West Ham 3-1 last weekend, and are now just two points off the bottom.

As for the team news, Arsene Wenger has insisted to select the best players available on the day and although Nicklas Bendtner, Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott are available, they will be called upon if the situation demands it.

The trio have been unused substitutes at Villa Park and will be desperate for action in today's game. Morocco striker Marouane Chamakh scored his 10th goal of the season against Villa and is likely to be rested for this clash. Captain Cesc Fabregas is still out but Wenger is hoping that he will recover in time for the big clash with Manchester United on the 13th December.

Centre-half Sebastien Squillaci (knee) is also out, but utility man Emmanuel Eboue could make a quick return after his injury against Braga was not as bad as it feared.

For the visitors, Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega has another two games of his three-match ban to serve but defender Antolin Alcaraz could return after serving his ban. Fellow centre-half Gary Caldwell could return after failing to prove his fitness against West Ham but has now had more time to recover.

However, on-loan midfielder Tom Cleverley is ineligible while Emmerson Boyce (hamstring) and James McCarthy (ankle) remain on the sidelines.
