SV Elversberg
SV Elversberg have wasted no time making their Bundesliga debut memorable. They beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 on the opening weekend and then came from 3-1 down to defeat Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-4 away, becoming only the ninth team in Bundesliga history to win its first two matches.
Their seven goals are also the most ever scored by a newly promoted side in its first two Bundesliga games.
The attacking confidence is obvious, but Bayern Munich are a different beast. SV Elversberg have also shown they can be vulnerable at the back, conceding five goals across those two wins, and they will now face a far higher-quality Bayern Munich side in the final third.
Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich's Bundesliga start has been slightly less perfect than usual, with a 5-1 demolition of VfB Stuttgart followed by a goalless draw away against Schalke 04.
They responded in emphatic fashion in Europe, though, beating Bodo/Glimt 5-0 at home in the Champions League, with Michael Olise scoring twice alongside goals from Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies.
The schedule is worth considering before backing Bayern Munich at a very short price. They have had a Champions League game only three days before this trip, and Vincent Kompany could rotate, although the Bundesliga's projected lineup currently has Kane and Olise starting. Serge Gnabry is the only player listed as doubtful, with no confirmed Bayern Munich absentees.
The Betting Verdict
SV Elversberg and Bayern Munich are playing each other for the first time ever. They've never met in a league match, a cup tie, or even a friendly. So it will be interesting to see how their first-ever duel goes.
I must admit I am a bit tempted to make a small punt on SV Elversberg, and most neutral fans will likely be with them. They've shown incredible spirit so far and played like a truly cohesive unit.
SV Elversberg are good enough to make this uncomfortable, particularly if Bayern Munich rotate after their European game. But five goals against Bodo/Glimt is a useful reminder of how much attacking firepower the German champions possess, and SV Elversberg have conceded three in each of their first two Bundesliga games.
The straight Bayern Munich win is basically worthless, so the more attractive route is to expect goals.
SV Elversberg have scored in both games, and Bayern Munich have already shown they can produce a big scoreline when their attack clicks.
Any combination with goals pays better than the away win, and my choice here is both teams to score & over 2.5 goals.
