Game 3 kept going... And going... And going... And going.
Eventually Freddie Freeman headed out to the plate at the bottom of the 18th Inning and crushed a Home Rune, which was also good news for those who had taken him to score a deep shot at 4.90 as identified in the sole Game 3 Prop selection.
He had already had previous big spots as the epic encounter joined Game 3 of the 2018 World Series as the longest played on the biggest stage. Ultimately Freeman came up big when it mattered and the Los Angeles Dodgers now take a 2-1 lead into Game 4 as the World Series continues in the City of Angels.
There is no doubt that Game 3 is going to have a big impact in the next two games to be hosted in Los Angeles- nineteen relievers were used on Monday night and the Dodgers had even warmed up Game 2 starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto as they had run out of arms in the bullpen.
Some relievers are simply not going to be able to go and that puts pressure on the starters heading to the mound.
Toronto will be looking to recover from the heartbreaking loss and they will be hoping for some better calls from the Home Plate Umpire after one controversial moment early in the game potentially cost them runs. While you never know how an Inning will play out, it was a key moment and one that frustrated Blue Jays Manager John Schneider who will be urging more decisiveness from those making calls.
They will turn to Shane Bieber, who had limited warm up at the end of Game 3 with the likelihood increasing that he might have needed his arm if the game had gone much longer. He is an experienced pitcher, but one that has yet to really get back to his very best on his return from Tommy John Surgery, but the Blue Jays will need Bieber to get himself out of some jams if they develop.
In three Playoff starts in 2025, Shane Bieber has a 1-0 record with a 4.38 ERA, although he has not completed 4 Innings in two of those starts. After the drama of Monday, the Blue Jays will need Bieber to reach the level he did in Game 3 of the Divisional Round at the Seattle Mariners when limiting the hosts to two runs in 6 Innings thrown.
He has only pitched against the Los Angeles Dodgers once before, but never in a setting like this and Shane Bieber will have to be careful of the opposition pitcher.
Shohei Ohtani made some huge Baseball history in Game 3- he knocked over two more Home Runs, which is standard for this superstar, but even more impressive is that Ohtani became the first player in World Series history to get onto Base on seven occasions.
As the game developed, that became eight and then nine times, which is the most in any Major League Baseball game in over eighty years.
The only concern for the scheduled Dodgers starter is that he had some cramping issues in Game 3, which is not a surprise considering the time running between Bases. Shohei Ohtani has downplayed concerns, but he is a two-way player of significance for the Dodgers and so the fans will be hoping the limited time of rest between games is enough for the star player to come out and produce his best.
He has a 2-0 record with a 2.25 ERA from the two Playoff starts made this season and Shohei Ohtani has not allowed a single run in his last 10 Innings thrown in the post-season. In three starts made against the Toronto Blue Jays, Shohei Ohtani holds a 2-1 record and a 3.32 ERA, but he will be facing this batting lineup for the first time.
Like Shane Bieber, there is some pressure on Shohei Ohtani to be able to chew through the Innings after some of the key relievers had been asked to come out on Monday.
George Springer had to leave Game 3 with an injury and has to be considered a doubt, which would be a huge blow for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Prediction
Game 4 is going to feel like 'after the Lord Mayor's Show' for many with little chance it will be half as epic as Game 3 proved to be.
Both starting pitchers have to be aware that they are likely to have little support early on in this one and they have to make sure they can get through the Innings.
The bullpens were heavily taxed on Monday and neither manager will want to put the arms through more Innings than needed- this is a pressure that Shane Bieber and Shohei Ohtani will have to deal with, although both have strong moments on the mound in the post-season.
Shohei Ohtani is having a huge impact at the plate too, but there are one or two concerns about the cramping issue in Game 3- he admitted he wanted to get home as soon as possible after the never-ending game and be able to rest up for what is a local 5pm start time.
It is a concern for the Dodgers, but they will also note that Shohei Ohtani has thrown 10 Innings without giving up a run. They may also choose to use Game 2 starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto in a relief setting if needed, but Ohtani can set his team up for another success.
Shane Bieber at his best deserves respect, but he has been knocked around a little more in the Playoff and that could play out here. The Blue Jays have used key arms in the Game 3 loss and leaving Bieber out there a little longer than they would want could swing this game in favour of the Los Angeles Dodgers and push the defending Champions onto the brink of completing back to back Championships.
Once again the Prop selections have come out on top with Freddie Freeman delivering in Game 3 as the sole pick made.
He is a little shorter to have another Home Run on Tuesday, and Freeman's sole previous Hit against Shane Bieber did leave the ballpark, but there are other players who may represent slightly better value.
Shohei Ohtani is not one of those- he has been delivering clutch Hit after clutch Hit, but the Blue Jays are not going to be afraid to pitch around him. At 2.45, the chances may not be there to score the Home Run as they would be for others, even if Ohtani doesn't need a lot of chances to smash the ball a million miles away.
Instead the focus is on a player in Will Smith who came so very close to a Home Run in Game 3 and who has a 2-3 record when facing Shane Bieber. Others may steal the spotlight, but Smith has been delivering and is 5.25 to score a Home Run in Game 4.
Losing George Springer would be a huge blow considering his career record against Shohei Ohtani, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr continues to produce for the Blue Jays and is 4.20 to score a Home Run. He has previously knocked one out of the ballpark against Ohtani, while Guerrero Jr will be confident if he is facing one of the more tired arms coming out of the bullpen.
