Bournemouth
Some teams tend to begin to panic when they have perhaps made a slower than expected start to the season and fall into the relegation places. That was never going to be the case at Bournemouth where there is a full faith in Eddie Howe as the manager and there have been shoots of improvement in the days before the international break.
With a place in the League Cup Quarter Final already earned, Bournemouth are focusing on getting out of the bottom three of the Premier League and a win over Newcastle United moved them up to 17th in the table. The Cherries are a point clear of West Ham United in 18th place, but Howe will know there needs to be an improvement at home to really pull away from the relegation zone. So far Bournemouth are 1-1-3 at the Vitality Stadium, scoring 3 goals and conceding 6.
Bournemouth may have hoped they could have postponed the latest international break as they had won 3 of their last 4 games in all competitions to begin trending in a positive direction. They had been unbeaten in 4 games at home in all competitions, winning 2 of those, before the 0-1 defeat to Chelsea in their last game here.
Junior Stanislas is ruled out, but the likes of Tyrone Mings and Benik Afobe are closer to a return. Joshua King and Jermain Defoe should be available.
Huddersfield Town
Each time it has looked like the standard of the Premier League is beginning to get on top of Huddersfield Town, David Wagner gets a big performance out of his players. The side may still remain one of the relegation favourites, but The Terriers are showing their heart and determination to battle through and earn the points they need to stay in the top flight.
They come into the weekend in 10th place in the Premier League table, but Huddersfield Town will understand things are tightly packed and they are only 6 points clear of the bottom three. 11 of the 15 points earned have come at home and Huddersfield Town are 1-1-3 on their travels in the League where they have scored 3 goals and conceded 7.
Huddersfield Town had not won any of 7 games in all competitions and had lost 3 of 4 before upsetting Manchester United 2-1 at home. They have won 2 of their last 3 in the Premier League to start moving in a positive direction, but both of those wins have come at the John Smith's Stadium. Huddersfield Town have not won or scored in any of their last 5 away games in all competitions and they have lost 4 of those.
David Wagner is dealing with a few injuries in his squad and Christopher Schindler is suspended for one game.
Head to Head
Bournemouth took four points from Huddersfield Town in their promotion season of 2014/15 when both played in the Championship, but the game here finished 1-1 that season.
Bournemouth are unbeaten in 5 home games against Huddersfield Town and had won back to back games against them before that 1-1 draw.
Prediction
Games like this one could prove to be so critical come April/May as the Premier League comes to a close and I don't think that is lost on Eddie Howe or David Wagner. It's hard to label games as 'must win' in November, but you can imagine certain fixtures have been circled by the managers and this has to be one that both Bournemouth and Huddersfield Town have looked to as one they can win.
The home advantage could be key to the outcome with Huddersfield Town clearly showing they are a much different proposition at home than on their travels. Goals have been hard to come by for The Terriers on their travels and defensively they have not been as tight as they have found themselves at the John Smith's Stadium.
A team like Bournemouth have the attacking power to take advantage of that and Eddie Howe will certainly feel they can win games like this at the Vitality Stadium. They had some real momentum going into the international break and the only worry for Howe is that the two break has snapped some of that.
Even with that in mind, Bournemouth have looked like an improving team and I think the absence of Christopher Schindler does weaken the Huddersfield Town rearguard. I can imagine they are set up to restrict Bournemouth and frustrate them, but the home team have played well enough and have the likes of Joshua King and Jermain Defoe to sniff out the chances.
The lack of goals has to be a concern for Huddersfield Town having failed to score in their last 5 away games in all competitions. On the other hand Bournemouth do create chances and I think they can take one which can lead to another important three points for a team climbing away from the bottom three.
