Wolves
Vitor Pereira had made it clear that the League Cup run should now spark the Premier League form after a poor start to the domestic campaign and his Wolves team were seconds away from backing the manager with a big win at Tottenham Hotspur. They conceded in injury time to drop two points, but there is a bit of momentum behind Wolves as they look for a first Premier League victory before heading into the October international break.
Despite the positive result in North London, Wolves remain bottom of the Premier League table and that point at Spurs is the first one they have earned in the top flight this season. A win will not take Wolves out of the bottom three, but they will be back in touch with the teams above them, and that means improving the 0-0-3 record at Molineux in the Premier League where the side have scored 3 goals, but conceded 10.
Wolves had lost 3 games in a row, but they managed to beat Everton 2-0 here in the League Cup Third Round before the draw last Saturday night. They have lost 4 of the last 5 Premier League games played at home going back to the end of last season, but Wolves have home victories over two Premier League clubs in the League Cup over the last six weeks.
The squad looks in good shape for this fixture on Sunday.
Brighton
There is no doubt that the fixture at Stamford Bridge turned in Brighton's favour when Trevoh Chalobah was sent off early in the second half, but Fabian Hurzeler will have been frustrated watching chance after chance pass his team by. That all changed in the last 13 minutes and Brighton were able to score three late goals and now will be looking for another big away performance before the international break.
Getting back into Europe is the ambition for Brighton Football Club and they came up a little short last season- the win last weekend has pushed them into 10th place in the early Premier League table and they have 8 points on the board. The Seagulls have a 1-0-2 away record in the top flight where they have scored 4 goals and conceded 5.
Brighton were narrowly beaten at Bournemouth after returning from the September international break and then blew a 2-0 home lead in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur. Since that result, Brighton have crushed Barnsley away from home in the League Cup and they have also won that fixture at Chelsea last weekend to give the team confidence.
Joel Veltman has been ruled out, while Kaoru Mitoma is hoping to shake off a knock and travel with the squad.
Head to Head
Brighton beat Wolves 3-2 at home in the League Cup last season and also took four points from them in the Premier League.
The majority of the League points were earned in a 0-2 win at Molineux and Brighton have now won 4 straight Premier League fixtures on this ground.
Prediction
The initial reaction- the gut feeling- of the prices for this fixture on Sunday afternoon is that Brighton are incredibly short at odds on to win at Molineux.
The 1-3 win at Chelsea is an impressive result, but Brighton were playing against ten men in the second half and they were pretty poor when losing at Bournemouth after the September international break.
Fabian Hurzeler's team have been decent enough going forward, but there are some defensive vulnerabilities and that makes odds on quotes feel pretty short.
Of course you do have to consider the fact that Wolves have a single point this season and have lost all 3 Premier League games at home. Two of those losses have been in games where Wolves may have considered themselves favourites against Everton and Leeds United, but the win over Everton in the League Cup and the draw at Tottenham Hotspur will give Vitor Pereira real belief that his team is ready to kick on.
Perhaps contributing to the prices is the fact that Brighton have won 4 Premier League visits to this part of the Black Country, as well as the poor defensive performances we have seen from the home team.
Wolves will feel they can get forward and cause problems of their own, especially with Jorgen Strand Larsen expected to lead the line, but Brighton should be pretty confident heading here with visiting teams already scoring 10 League goals here.
Each of the three visiting teams have managed at least three goals and so the better approach may be backing that many goals to be shared out between the teams.
Prior to the 0-2 win here for Brighton in May, 4 straight League fixtures hosted by Wolves had finished with at least three goals shared out. 5 of the last 7 overall Premier League games between the Clubs have done the same and both teams may feel that getting forward could be the best way to protect what has been vulnerable defensive units.
The price for at least three goals to be shared out is bigger than anticipated and that could be the best approach to take in this fixture in front of the television cameras.
